So i've been working on my Titan I moonbase and I think i've finally reached the point where I can't add anymore without KSP exploding. Things are starting to lag like hell. I wish I could have added more, oh well it's still pretty cool as is. I landed: Main Command Lander: 87tons Main Reactor: 171tons 2x Habitat Buildings: 120tons each. Gatehouse & Ramps: 35tons 4x Asteriod Defense Turret Towers: 12tons each 2x Light posts: 1.5t each 2x Rovers 1.5t each 2x Backup Solar Generators: 5tons Pictures!: These were taken when I had not landed the Backup solar genrators yet. So long time after I played demo... Now I just bought the game and build the first and worked rocket that can orbit Kerbin! The rocket: Phoenix I But now after I tried to test a plane and failed... Jeb has been killed. And I forgot to restart the flight.... Anyway to revive him? So I can put him with Bill and Bob and send them to very far from Space center.
I want the old fuel tank with the rims on the top and bottom again.
The actual docking isn't the problem, they've already said (somewhere) that it's essentially done. However, not only do they need to implement a guidance system that helps you rendezvous with another ship, but they have to overhaul the GUI to support all the docking related things (fuel transfer, for example). And they've said they don't want to do much to the GUI[SUP][1][/SUP] until the unity update comes out, which is supposed to have much better GUI tools.
Yeah, docking is ridiculously hard to do, even with sophisticated UI tools, I'd rather have the feature come out later and be usable, than have it and be unable to use it. [editline]1st August 2012[/editline]
I could even see it over here in holland, which is like the brightest fucking place in europe.
I rarely see stars here.

[editline]1st August 2012[/editline] I rarely see stars here.
What's the difficult part of docking? The actual docking bit, or the rendezvous part?
What's the difficult part of docking? The actual docking bit, or the rendezvous part?
Rendezvous can be very difficult but I find the actual docking to be even more difficult, especially since the things I try to dock with tend to tumble.
Rendezvous can be very difficult but I find the actual docking to be even more difficult, especially since the things I try to dock with tend to tumble.
Mechjeb set to prograde on the target ship, so it gets all lined up nicely, and is likely to stay that way for a bit. Then switch back to the docking ship and move in to dock.

How did you launch such a big habitat/lander to the Mun? How big was the rocket?
What's the difficult part of docking? The actual docking bit, or the rendezvous part?
Both, in my experience. You got to match your apoapsis or periapsis damn near perfectly, then you either wait exorbitant amounts of time for your orbits to sync, or you do minor burns at the sync point to extend your orbit so that the time it takes you to go around and get back to the sync point matches the time that the target vessel will be there. Then you have to syncronise velocities, then you have to guide yourself in using RCS, then you'll dock. It really is absurd, there's a reason the dudes on the shuttle used to have it done automatically.
That's cool as hell. How did you launch such a big habitat/lander to the Mun? How big was the rocket?
This was what I launched the Habitats with: ~cool landing before relocation shot~ The reactor was just me messing around with overpowered and unstable test platforms when I realised I was actually lined up for an orbital landing and decided to go for it: Wouldn't normally use this but since it was up there I decided hell why not, you can tell how much this is spinning by how much it's outstretched and how far it flies off. Turns out during that whole fiasco I lost a landing engine on the reactor, so I reordered some stuff midflight and jettisoned the excess one to balance it out for landing. With some heavy concentration and panic burning it eventually ended up at base.
How'd you re-arrange stuff mid-flight? As in, you ejected fuel tanks to make it easier to handle and whatnot?
What's all this talk I hear about a new planet? I haven't been keeping up with KSP news.
How'd you re-arrange stuff mid-flight? As in, you ejected fuel tanks to make it easier to handle and whatnot?
You drag things around on the left hand staging, but as far as I know you can't make new stages midflight so generally you have to salvage one. Other than that it behaves pretty much like the usual ordering.
What's all this talk I hear about a new planet? I haven't been keeping up with KSP news.
In the new update (0.17) we'll get new planets and moons.
In the new update (0.17) we'll get new planets and moons.
But no new parts, meaning making an interplanetary rocket will be quite the challenge. Also, can somebody explain to me how you get to places 'faster'? Similarly, how would using constant acceleration work? Is that possible in the simulator? How would you set it up?

It'll be interesting how they will solve the problem of manually getting to another planet, doing it by hand is not possible with the tremendous accuracy necessary (unless mechjeb will be an official part of the game, which I doubt). Perphaps we could see some kind of warp drive in the future?

Just try burning into an orbit half of what Kerbin orbits at, then eyeball the burn to get back until the patched conics solver latches on. The hard part wont be the maneuvers, it will be the fuel load needed from a single launch without the aid of building ships in orbit.
Just go into solar orbit and given enough time you'll probably hit something.
Years. With warp.
Damnit, I made a giant 2 armed articulate claw monster to tear apart space stations, only to find that all the servoes bug out in orbit and make the ship fly to peices.

With a moon, you can remain in your original sphere of influence and wait, as you said. Crossing into the sun's soi and missing can leave you stranded for years.
Right before I go on vacation in the mountains of Colorado, I check the thread to see what's going on. Dammit guys now I need to bring a hotspot to check the updates.
jesus what's the TWR
