Swebonny, I think the only reason we are freaking out about this is that in general, fp is pretty open with moderation discussion.

mods don't send a thread to the sekrit zone just to talk about it

We've honestly been kind of spoiled here with how moderation works. Most forums work on the "mods are gods" style.
mods don't send a thread to the sekrit zone just to talk about it
They also don't edit our posts to remove things they disagree with personally, or hard delete threads that aren't spambots/raids. Or lock threads when somebody questions a decision. People were complaining in the Ask us about the forums thread when the subforums changed, and Garry didn't get banhappy about it or lock the thread.
So anyways, how's everyone's designs for interplanetary travel coming along?
Since I can't get a 3m CM to do anything but explode, I'm working with the one man CM.
Practiced parking a ship in orbit half way between the sun and Kerbin. Takes a damn long time because even at max time warp it's about half a year to do this...
Got an orbit but, I'm not sure how far the inner Lava planet will be. Also, not sure I wont burn up when I touch down. :tinfoil: What I do know is that I wouldn't have enough fuel to land on a Kerbin sized planet, with atmosphere. And with no planet to use as a sling shot, I didn't have the fuel to get back.
So I'd say, on the Kerbal grading system, I get an A because I didn't blow up the second I hit the spacebar.
Personally, I think it's a bit of a culture shock for us, going from such a lax forum to a place with a bit stricter rules.
Anyways, I'm glad this thing's been smoothed over
i just hope we can get back to discussing ksp
honestly the way quite a few of you ganged up and started making threads and signing them was uncalled for/obnoxious

Looking back at it, not really.

I regret ganging up against them, but I don't regret the opinions I expressed in my posts to SkunkMonkey.

The attitude has really flipped since yesterday. Then it was "that guy is a facist! let's call him out on it!", now we think he's alright because Squad wants him like that?
But seriously, how da fuck do you get that 3m CM into space? Every time I play with 3m parts it ends in horrible horrible failure with little bits of green men all over the place.

No, I still think it's stupid that they're acting the way they are, but it's their forum and their choice, and we could probably have handled it better too.

Don't overdo it :)

More boosters? I'm not joking, that's how I've done it. Large liquid boosters (possibly with a fuel link to a main engine on the next stage) work great for 3m rockets. Also, to reiterate what LarparNar said, keep it simple. Try to reduce mass on your topmost stages, since that saves fuel on every stage before then.

The total lack (and refusal) of transparency in their moderation doesn't help one bit.

I agree, but I don't think we handled it in a good way.

Ok here's a one stage rocket that makes you go in large circles around the planet:

It also has propellant enough to get you back into the planets atmosphere so that you can survive!

This is my build:
Lander -
Big Chute
3M CM (With three Kerbals who have made peace with God)
Decoupler
3m fuel tank
4 landing legs (Tha'ts Optimistic right there...)
3m small engine
Decoupler
Orbit Stage -
2 3m fuel tanks
3m large engine
Decoupler
Lifting Vehicle-
5 3m fuel tanks in center stack
30 3m fuel tanks around the center stack
8 Billion connecting struts to keep the wobble down
6 3m large engines.
18 large SRBs
If this beast doesn't wobble apart during lift off, it barely makes 30km. That's with a Gravity turn. The orbit stage is plenty to get to any moon I want but 90% of the time the whole thing goes boom before I use all the fuel in the lifting vehicle. I manged to get 3 (two on minimus and one on the moon) out there but they have all been lucky. As in, after the boom, most of the lander is still intact and it manged to limp out to a moon.
I've named the ship "The Wife" because I never know when it's going to blow up on me or why. Sometimes I'm able to coax it into a nice orbit and bed down on a moon for some exploration but most of the time I'm shut down hard and shit just goes to pieces. That's when I go play world of tanks to let out frustration.

The big parts have a tendency to blow up during launch if you have a large ship.
A combination of throttling down a little / more struts usually works.
Bobdred landing the right way (multiple interpretations possible):

When I make mun rockets I try to make them as lightweight as possible, with enough fuel to make it there plus a little extra for safety. I never do well with hugeass rockets.
A combination of throttling down a little
Does not compute.
Throttle has two settings: No Go / Go
But seriously, what/when do you throttle down?

When the G's start getting really high, throttling down is usually a good idea.
~4G's is pushing it, but it depends on the rocket.

You have to think about gravity. When you're going faster and faster you're going to encounter more G forces. You don't want to put too much stress on the airframe.

You, Sir, make some amazing rockets. My highest G on lift off is 3.5 and it's not in my big rockets. "The Wife" doesn't push much past 2 and if I get past SRB seperation never climbs over 1.
Does anybody have a direct download link to the NovaPunch pack? The download link has been removed from the forum for "licensing problems".
Okay, not gonna lie, making a bunch of comsats and putting them in a big orbit is kind of amazingly fun. I don't know why, but it just is.
So is deorbiting the defunct ones.

I put a mapping satellite into orbit, armed with many antennas and satellite dishes to prepare for a comsat network. Its really fun to do stuff like this, I should mention that I haven't even made it to the Mun yet, instead I've just been focusing on this stuff.

I'm the exact opposite. In previous playthroughs, I've made it to the Mun, Minmus, and escaped the solar system hundreds of times, but never really focused on Kerbin.

I focus on Kerbin quite often.
About 1 in 3 rockets gets focused into the ground at 400+ m/s
I am having trouble landing on the Mun, every time I attempt to do it, I always run out of fuel before I can slow the lander down enough.
There are 3 crew modules sitting on the surface of the Mun at the moment.

Maybe you should drop some rovers and land a crew tank Mun base for them.
Either you don't have enough fuel to start with (unlikely)
Or
You're trying to slow down too soon for too long.
I try to cut my orbit down to 10KM before I make a run at landing. Then a hard burn until I'm down to < 90 m/s. A tiny teeny bit of thrust to keep that speed or have it drop slowly then a hard burn at ~1500m to kill it zero then desend for landing.
Also, If you are sick of trying to do it manual like. Mechjeb has a great lander. Actually I use Mechjeb a lot. Not to pilot the ship but for the information boxs. Data on the ship, ground, and land is very handy. It lets you know the true altitude of the space your landing on so you don't get a shock at 1800m
