Well, reverted to just the default parts and no mods. Somehow the game is now harder and I can barely launch rockets. [editline]14th August 2012[/editline] Okay, straight shots to the moon aint gonna happen with default parts.

The rocket I am currently using to get approx. 1/15th of the way to the moon... Tips?

Putting more stuff on doesn't always mean it will go further.
lol orbit I jus point at the moon and wooosh
Ah I think I see your problem.
It looks a bit heavy to me. Putting more stuff on doesn't always mean it will go further.
Well I like to load it up with enough SAS so I can just hit space and then watch it go to the moon.
lol orbit I jus point at the moon and wooosh
You.... You fucking serious?
lol orbit I jus point at the moon and wooosh
Try orbiting up to it instead.
lol orbit I jus point at the moon and wooosh
Well there's your problem. Instead of doing that take a crash course in rocketry. Once you know what the terms apoapsis, periapsis, prograde and retrograde mean you'll chances of reaching the moon improve dramatically.
Well there's your problem. Instead of doing that take a crash course in rocketry. Prograde is burning to your target. Retrograde is burning away from your target. I got dis.
Apoapsis is one end of an orbit, periapsis is the other. Prograde is burning to your target. Retrograde is burning away from your target. I got dis.
Retro/prograde refer to the direction of motion, not to your target. So, now that you know that (periapsis is the lower end), get into an orbit, and burn prograde to raise your apoapsis to high enough to get caught by the moon (you might want to burn to raise it once, then warp to the new apoapsis and burn again), then get ready to burn retrograde to get in a munar orbit and land.
Apoapsis is one end of an orbit, periapsis is the other. Prograde is burning to your target. Retrograde is burning away from your target. I got dis.
To nitpick, a prograde is burning towards your orbit (the green marker) while a retrograde is burning opposite to your orbit (the green marker with an X). Also, burning prograde at your Apoapsis (the highest point in your orbit) will raise your Periapsis while burning prograde at your Periapsis will (the lowest point in your orbit) raise your Apoapsis. The basic idea is to burn prograde to raise one end of the orbit to be far enough to hit the moon. Burning at your apses is the most efficient use of your fuel.

I remember when getting to the Mun with default parts was a challenge.
You'll also find that once you get the hang of it, it becomes really easy. Like so
Like so
Yes do that. Burn prograde when the Mun rises above the horizon.
Like so
Sort of. If you have enough fuel and your timing is perfect, that will work. You'll more likely need to burn prograde to raise your orbit and then a second time to save fuel.
Like so
That's pretty much a textbook TLI.
I always go into a munar-pass orbit, not sure what it's actually called. It sometimes goes instantly when I either burn at the right time or get lucky. Otherwise it takes a day or two to intersect. That's my lazy munar orbit. Then I always orbit, lower myself down a bit and when I have chosen a landing location, burn towards the Periapsis when I start nearing my landing location and lose all of my horizontal/orbital movement. Then I just drop down slowly and then do a heavy burn, and then keep my speed low and land. Works with all of my landers.
I was able to send a little satellite into a solar orbit. I am proud of myself.
Man, all this licensing shit is pissing me off. The oldest and best mods, such as NovaPunch, made by a member of the MODTEAM, are being shut down probably permanently. I thought SQUAD wouldn't get into this shit; even Mojang don't require poor 12 year old modders to obtain a license for their mods. Pathetic. Fuck off.

Squad should have strongly recommended having a licence and give zero fucks/do nothing if something happens to some mod that doesn't have a licence.[/sp]
Thats interesting, the moon Titan is the only moon to have a dense atmosphere, as well as the only place outside Earth where there are stable bodies of liquid, and on top of that the atmospheric pressure is 146.7 kPa. One standard atmosphere is about 101 kPa. So the atmospheric pressure is a bit less than 1.5 atmospheres, which I believe is survivable, and it is mostly nitrogen like ours. Ofc its surface temperature is −179.5 °C, the lakes are hydrocarbons, and the atmosphere is 98% nitrogen, with the rest being methane and hydrogen. Large bodies of liquid on other planets is pretty cool [thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e8/PIA10008_Seas_and_Lakes_on_Titan.jpg[/thumb]
wait what? I am confused. [editline]14th August 2012[/editline] but i though it was liquid methane.
Basically if you don't have a license for your mods/plug-ins they get removed. A few people got all up-in-arms and basically it was a huge clusterfuck
Try orbiting up to it instead.
What kind of pussy strategy is that? :v:
While Novapunch is unappealing, you don't just do that kind of stuff to one of the largest, most popular mods out there.
I totally agree.
wait what? I am confused.
Novapunch is two old mod packs merged together. The dev (Tiberion) needs permission to licence the parts, and thus have his mod be on the forums, but at least one of the old devs is long gone (Sunday Punch) so he can't get permission to licence and continue the mod.
