Apparently some of the NASA scientists who work on Curiosity are fans of KSP http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/ybmmh/we_are_engineers_and_scientists_on_the_mars/c5u3j9z
This game is so much better but so much more frustrating with default parts. Everything is balanced.
By balanced, you mean overpowered?
By balanced, you mean overpowered?
Whhhhhhat? No, parts from packs are too good. [editline]16th August 2012[/editline] Fuck the mun.
I have made it my mission to recreate my single-stage-to-mun lander in 0.16, so far it seems like it's going to be a lot more difficult.
Remember my Munar rescue? Well, look who's smiling and glad to be back!
Hey guys I totally forgot to tell everyone about this group I made where I might post announcements about cool space stuff. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/FacepunchSpace You can join it, but only if you want to :)
I <3 Mun I dedicate this video to the lost souls who now lay on Kerbin, drown in Kerbin's ocean, burn around the Sun, and decay in the emptiness of space.
But....Spacepunch :c
that's already used for SS13.
I think I did it. A nice Hybridization of all three designs. The engines degree of attack is actually more downward than it looks. it is just sloped back so the extrusions arn't too blunt. Edit: as per kyle's Suggestion i am moving the engines up a bit. looks a tad better.

Thought I'd see how long it would take to land a ship just by aerobraking from a 60 km periapsis. It wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be, just because you can't speed it up. Danwell still manages to be just as upset every time the pod starts moving away from Kerbin. You'd think he'd get used to it at some point.
Yay made an XWING and it even has an R2D2. [editline]17th August 2012[/editline] WIP Naboo starfighter aswell
Found this awesome picture on wikipedia from Apollo 12: That's an astronaut visiting a lander probe that had landed two years before he arrived. It's the only time that this sort of encounter has ever happened. It got me feeling all soft for landers again, so I just had a good talk with cardboard about how we're going to do the LK. We're going to begin modeling a few pieces, but we won't be implementing them into the game until we get capsules that can contain other part types, which would simplify things considerably. But here's a mockup of the central, spherical module, and the RCS tanks that are strapped on with a decoupling undercarriage. I modeled something for once:
Holy crap um wow... Not sure what to think about the last few threads... Anyway I got my KSP Forum Account back!

Make your mind up rocket! Are you orbiting the Mun or Kerbin?

Aw man, don't you just hate it when you launch and then realize you forgot something that's absolutely necessary? I just brought 1,200 liters of fuel that I can't use 7000 km because I forgot the fuel lines. Poor Danwell, he was gonna land on the Mun! [editline]17th August 2012[/editline] You know what would be a really nice feature? If you could click on a point in your trajectory, and it would fast forward until it gets there, and returns to 1x speed. I've messed up way too many missions by fast forwarding too much.
yep less Minecraft and more real. I blame Nova :D (in a positive way)

Needs more head shake and TrackIR. Really awesome though.
Hah, I made my munar rocket a bit too big, and just by chance, I happened to end up on a direct course for Minmus. If I succeed, it means I'll land on Minmus before I landed on the Mun. :v: [editline]18th August 2012[/editline] Oh wow, I bounced and rolled. Sadly, the parachute broke. Gering is pretty much a dead Kerbal walking right now. [editline]18th August 2012[/editline] Oh no, the capsule broke off while I was trying to right the ship. Now Gering doesn't even have a fighting chance.
Heh, chad just had to go and post the video even though the sky was supposed to be a surprise and for that matter isn't finished :p

Well, seeing as the cat's out of the bag on the sky now, I suppose I could show you guys this: [t]http://i.imgur.com/7SkSQ.jpg[/t]

Wow, a very well done Nova, that looks amazing. Are they all on the same orbital plane?
Sort of. There's slight (less than one degree) inclination and slight (less than 0.1) eccentricity on all of them, except Kerbin and LavalessPlanet (which is too close to the sun to be seen in this picture

After 1107 days, my first multi-planet flyby probe has run out of fuel in a futile attempt to place itself onto a solar escape trajectory. Of course, considering it was just intended to fly by one planet initially, I would call it very successful. Here are some pictures of the mission (the fairing is from Silisko Edition and the spacecraft parts themselves are from Probodobodyne) http://imgur.com/a/clX81

That looks pretty cool, kinda sounds like a voyager mission IMO. Did you try using a gravity slingshot around the gas planet? That might have helped put it in an escape trajectory with minimal fuel.
I used a gravitational slingshot around each planet, but at the gas planet I sacrificed an easier solar escape trajectory for a flyby of its largest moon. Although, I did jettison the departure stage with 1/5th of its fuel, not realizing that had I kept it, I could have probably done a flyby of -every- planet, or inserted myself into orbit around one of them.
I'm looking forward to 0.17, but dreading it at the same time because I know the patch day will most likely be horrendous.
Aw man, don't you just hate it when you launch and then realize you forgot something that's absolutely necessary? I just brought 1,200 liters of fuel that I can't use 7000 km because I forgot the fuel lines. Poor Danwell, he was gonna land on the Mun!
I had a lander break somehow on the return trip. Sent up another rocket to get it with an added crew tank. Forgot extra parachutes, Bill Jeb and Bob survived but the crew tank with the rescued Mun lander crew broke off when the command pod parachute opened. Least they didn't die in space.
I decided to have a pre-release of sorts for my reentry probes since people on the KSP forums really wanted them. Download here. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/13781308/KSP/ExPI/IntPlanProbes1.png[/t]
The chute is awesome Pelf and the probe as well. Does anyone know where you can find fairings? No packs seem to have them.
KW has nice fairings.
KW has nice fairings.
Ah thanks, seems I only downloaded the rocketry thing. Edit: First rendevouz !
