I like the following mechanic, and the up/down vote
possible idea, dunno. if a mod gets really downvoted, hide from general browsing

IE you have to search "terrible mod" to see it, otherwise it doesn't show up on the homepage.
We could determine how popular it is compared to the most popular mod (which would be a weighted score of 100). so one mod has a final total of +10 and another has +8.3 so in this scenario the mod with +10 is the highest score and represents 100% popularity (and a score of 100) which would mean the second mod would have a score of 83
Sounds like a Steam Workshop for KSP.
Pretty much exactly this
I've also updated the main page to make it much easier to find what you're looking for, ie the general problem I had with KSP forums was that I keep clicking on mods links that I had already been too because I couldn't bother to remember the mod name, so now we have a thumb of the featured image on the main page/search.
Side bar is subject to change, we're still to add into the popular mods and such.

Some of the website looks like Metro but the buttons are rounded, you should make them all sharp edged, I'm starting to like Metro.
This website has the Metro look

Alright, we're ready to release kerbalnet to the public for testing - the site can be accessed from here http://www.kerbal.net/ Note that most of them are examples until we get real mods on.
You're currently able to sign up, and post mods or saves that you have right now and we'll start deleting the ones we have.
You are able to download mods without signing up, but you will not be able to rate, comment or upload.
(also please don't upload mods that aren't yours, ta)
Let us know about any errors you come across.
Let us know about any errors you come across.
As people upload content our shitty placeholder mods will be removed. Additionally the download links for the placeholder mods are like, butfuck mcgee'd and only link to a bunch of filler zip files so probably don't try download them.
You will come across bugs, please understand this has only been tested in a dev environment, who knows what you clowns can manage :v:
Do you have anything on the site clearly indicating immediately (i.e., not hidden in some 'about' page) that these are placeholder mods? I've never seen a site use placeholder content that gets removed as real content gets introduced, and all I can see it doing is confusing and frustrating people. Better to get a collection of real content and add that in
I need fixed cameras and the lights mod

I fully don't understand what your problem is, do you seriously want me to remove all the placeholder mods which would leave the site looking emptier than your bed on prom night?
:p

I'm just giving you advice (that I think I rationalised pretty well) that would make the site more user friendly and less misleading/frustrating to new users. If you're trying to start up a new site and it's immediately confusing and misdirecting users then you're off to a bad start
Especially when the demographic you are targeting contains both developers and end-users
So yes, I am suggesting you remove the placeholder content

He's saying that if you took off the placeholders as real mods got added, some people would get confused and annoyed that mods they thought looked cool weren't real.
He's suggested getting a reasonable collection of mods and launching with them to avoid both issues.

Sort of; I'm saying that I'd get rid of the placeholders altogether from day one and use only real mods as content

Just empty the site, I'm gonna upload some craft..Which just gave me an idea, you should think of a way so people can show what mods the used for their crafts like a button to select the mods used on the website so little clickable thumbnails get added to a list and an option to type in the name is the mod isn't on the site yet.
All dummy content has been removed

There is already a system in place for this, the "required mods" field allows the author to specify mods that are required to use the part/plugin/craft that they are uploading. It is a good idea to have a dedicated one and I'll look into it.

Getting a grump on because people are giving you critique on your site isn't making you look good; you won't always be right about stuff and it's better to accept the opinions of others gracefully and if evidence suggests that they know what they're talking about, consider following their advice.
Computer video game mod index sites are SERIOUS BUSINESS

when you aren't logged in, there's a button for 'edit mod page' on the mod page
You can currently edit someone else's description
And can't you add a category "Parts" for mods that aren't plugins? It's like it's focusing too much on saves right now (SPH and VAB on top)
Erm the editing business should be fixed, problem was due to some dev environment settings still be enabled. If not logout and in again.
also added the "Parts" category as requested. would love to see some more on it ;D
