What'd be really cool is yeah, if you could make a shuttle with a deployable bay. But I've personally never gotten piggyback shuttles to work without the whole thing flipping out in the direction the shuttle is mounted.
then you mount two shuttles on opposite sides
It seems like that should just be a matter of staging or disabling flow on the shuttle tanks. EDIT: I had a shuttle I was making that was having the falling onto the shuttle side problem. I'm going to see if I can get it working like you were.
Okay, I tested it, and it's possible to use the attached fuel tank instead of the shuttle's. It didn't fix my shuttle not going straight, but it kinda helped. It's actually working pretty well now that I've added more control surfaces. EDIT: Worked great... until 14 km, where it decided it wanted to do backflips instead.
I think part of the trick is the Shuttle's own engines are running as it ascends and it already lifts major part of it's own weight, the rockets mainly hauling the fuel it needs to get to orbit, the shuttle sucking it it out of it on the go. [editline]6th September 2012[/editline] I mean, the thrust/weight ratio of both the shuttle and the carrier rocket should probably be vaguely balanced. [editline]6th September 2012[/editline] I just tried and got something that would have worked amazingly, but ran into the problem that it always takes fuel from the wrong tanks (the shuttle's own fuel tanks instead of the carrier tank). Is there any complex fuel management plugin, yet?
right click on the shuttles tank and press disable flow
right click on the shuttles tank and press disable flow
From the shuttle I was testing with, that wasn't necessary. All it needs is a fuel line from the booster tank to the shuttle's engine. While I'm here, does anyone know if the RemoteTech or MechJeb plugins are what's making "End Flight" stop working for me?
I successfully landed the last of my Akopo II moon rovers on the mun, after getting it back to earth I'll start designing the Akopo III :v: In other news, it has been roughly six days after the death of Chadman Kerman, the first astronaut to successfully land the Akopo I rover on Minmus who met his fate via a steep cliff.
While I'm here, does anyone know if the RemoteTech or MechJeb plugins are what's making "End Flight" stop working for me?
Probably. I had the same problem so I deleted all my plugins/plugin info and it worked after that (though it may have been the cart mod that broke it).
EDIT: Worked great... until 14 km, where it decided it wanted to do backflips instead.
The center of gravity may have shifted too far back or the fuel tank mass may have gotten too low.
Probably. I had the same problem so I deleted all my plugins/plugin info and it worked after that (though it may have been the cart mod that broke it).
Ugh, I just had to reinstall, too. I have carts installed, though, so I'll try playing without it.
The center of gravity may have shifted too far back or the fuel tank mass may have gotten too low.
It definitely did, since I had just decoupled the SRBs from it. Still, I was able to kinda glide back to the runway.
I love how the beacon deploys Anyone got an idea for the beacons? They aren't of much use as of now.
I love how the beacon deploys snip Anyone got an idea for the beacons? They aren't of much use as of now.
Drop a beacon onto the mun or minmus and then try to land in the same spot
I can try that. It'll probably be a skycrane like deployment.
I can try that. It'll probably be a skycrane like deployment.
Do that please!
It'll be like the MSL one but without cables going down, just a static 1M pole or something . There's no way of making it go down while the crane stays in the same position (could've been done with robotics if they don't spazz out all the fucking time) I'll try this tomorrow, more than enough time then.
finally got to mun stock, in the end i just launched a ton of rockets which I knew would roughly cross it's orbit and timed it so maybe possibly just one might crash into it, now to try out all this fancy mods everyone keeps talking about
I added wheels to one of the beacons, it kinda worked but it was really top heavy and fell over quite soon after :v:
Has anyone managed to fly around kerbin with atmospheric engines and no refueling?
I love how the beacon deploys [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/43645231/photos/KSP/screenshot479.png[/t] Anyone got an idea for the beacons? A real man's challenge is getting a craft into orbit using only atmospheric engines.
If I can get this bad boy to the desert planet in .17 I can fly around and look for a good spot to land the rover at.
Hate to break it to you, but those atmospheric engines won't work on other planets unless they have oxygen in their atmosphere.
So I am messing around with interiors for Dragon. I made something horrific @__@ the Kerbals looks like they came through a malfunctioning teleporter. Fly around alittle.
Hate to break it to you, but those atmospheric engines won't work on other planets unless they have oxygen in their atmosphere.
Then I'll slap some propellers on there instead. But do they really have parameters for a planet's atmospheric composition in KSP?

I've spent at least 6 hours in the last two days perfecting this, and I nearly have it. I tried to use some of the Novapunch parts, but they all failed at 2.3gs.. which was very disappointing. I've tried everything but to no avail.I think the engine just hates extremely large rockets.
Yes, that's caused by plugin crashes - the Rendezvous module on MechJeb is particularly prone to crashing, so avoid using it
Can it still crash if I never use the rendezvous feature, or is it MechJeb in general that crashes it?
Whats with all of that bloom?
ENB addon from the ksp forums. I think I'm done using it though, everything is washed out. There's enough bloom in the default game anyway
I hate that if you make big rockets they collide with the god damn fucking launchpad tower and everything explode mod to make the launchpad bigger in diameter?
I hate that if you make big rockets they collide with the god damn fucking launchpad tower and everything explode mod to make the launchpad bigger in diameter?
There used to be a mod that gave you a platform you could build on top of, which was raised above the launch tower. It's probably still on the forums somewhere.
I hate that if you make big rockets they collide with the god damn fucking launchpad tower and everything explode mod to make the launchpad bigger in diameter?
There is project keryblon or whatever, but if your rocket is not only big but also tall that might not work. You can move the rocket on the launchpad using the VAB but you can only move it so much. Other than that, build a more cylindrical rocket. with enough launch clamps it can support rockets exceeding 700 tonnes.
RADICAL
Actually, a tubular rocket would be cool. In fact, I'm going to make one to smite you.
