sambooo, your decouplers are in the wrong order
They aren't, I rebuilt the same design again ensuring I got the order right and it still happened. Turns out using medium struts mostly fixed the problem, as shown:
What does the impulse stuff stand for actually? Does it multiply the thrust or something by X amount ?
The higher impulse, the less fuel it consumes
Aha. That indeed does make them into the space travel engines I guess.
[editline]18th September 2012[/editline]
the fact that they don't give a lot of thrust doesn't matter anymore once you're in orbit.
So I am wondering is I should make NK-33.... It would be none thrust vectorable and unlike RD-0146 it will eat fuel :D
Of course the real debate is whether or not to make the NK-43 (the vacuum version) for the Nk-33 as a heavy launch upper stage engine OR just make a vacuum version of the RD-191 both of which would have extendable nozzles.
Also, holy damn the Nk-33 starter and starter exhaust is massive. It is that whole tub at the bottom of the pump and that long tube going down the side of the nozzle.

although it doesn't quite get the glider into orbit, it got to an Ap of about 65k, so it totally could with a few tweaks
i landed on the next continent but the wheels sunk into the ground and brave ostwald only just made it out alive

Looks like the ship that Kurt tried building in one of his episodes, then the game screwed up and deleted the canopy.
Also, is it just me or do you need a three-meter fuselage for efficient fuel use? I can never build a proper spaceplane with the 1m parts because the engines use so much fuel.
Or maybe it's just the type of engine I'm using...

Well shit...
Eh, where can I find those small radial boosters that are useful for moving spent stages away from your ship?
[editline]18th September 2012[/editline]
If you find them for me, we can make this work!

Maybe the Down Under retro rockets?
Maybe the Down Under retro rockets?
Yes, that was it. Thank you!
[editline]19th September 2012[/editline]
Well, the rocket still failed :v:
When I decouple the radially mounted rockets, they take the main engine with them. Any ideas?

Thanks to Kickasskyle for helping me with my rocket and getting it into orbit! [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]
so i've been using the not erkle docking mod (orda) and can't figure it out. launched a barebones space station and was going to go add a new module to it. rendezvoused and everything, can't seem to figure out how to get the docking clamps to work though :(
tried editing ships and saves to use the erkle mod but for some reason when i load it up the erkle clamp seems to no be on the ship (seems like it might be there for a microsecond but as soon as it loads there's a white cloud where it should be and then it is gone) but it replaced all the orda stuff on the space station.
so can someone explain a bit better how to use orda, edit my saves, or should i scrub the mission (and launch a new part to attach to the space station) :(
[editline]18th September 2012[/editline]
so close (picture is with orda, after farting with saves the clamp on the bottom of the ship isn't there)

So where do you find this new kosmos mod?

What is specific impulse in this game?
What is specific impulse in this game?
fuel consumption based on air pressure for the thrust of the rocket.
Specific impulse has the units N*s/kg, that is Units of force * Time divided by mass (Of fuel consumed)
It is basically equivalent to the amount of force exerted each second that a rocket consumes a quantity of fuel. The math behind this may be difficult to understand if you have not taken a physics course, but the logic is simple: higher Isp equates to higher fuel efficiency.
The Simple English Wikipedia page is fairly easy to comprehend if you'd like a more in-depth understanding.
fuel consumption based on air pressure for the thrust of the rocket.
So it's the same as in real life? Cool, I was just wondering, thanks.
[sp]i have no clue what i'm talking about[/sp]

I find that Gooby avatar unsettling, by the way.
Was the nuclear engine a 0.17 part?
Was the nuclear engine a 0.17 part?
Yes, although since we know its SI and thrust, we could make a 0.16 version. It just wouldn't be that useful, as we're stuck at 1x while accelerating for now.
