um you're doing it wrong
it didn't work the first time
but my second try i "landed" (read crash (i was using the pre .17 version of machchute so i slammed into duna)) on duna
so jets don't seem to work on any alien planets
lift does however, it is taking me hours to float down to the surface with my improve plane :D just tilting the plane alters its direction a lot, a whole lot more than it doe on kerbal (on kerbal you have to tilt then pull "up")

video eventually
[editline]21st September 2012[/editline]
do i dare try to land without wheels or parachutes with all this lift?
Wooo! By total luck I managed to get to Duna, and into a circular orbit around Ike with 8L of fuel left.

Finally got to Jool. Ran out of fuel so no moon exploration. I got in a cool eccentric orbit though.

I plan to include much more fuel next time.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I FLOATED ALL THE WAY TO WHERE JEB WAS AND THEN HIT [ TO SEE FROM JEB'S POINT OF VIEW AND THE SHIP DISAPPEARED
:(
you'll see what i mean when i get the video
my life in this game:
[t]http://puu.sh/17pHB[/t]
the product of a few hours
Also this bug is really cool. I don't even know if it's a bug or not but a second sun exists on Earth for the first 15 seconds of larger rocket takeoffs.

ugh i'm so pissed. literally glided for an hour and ten minutes (add ten minutes to the bottom time stamp, had the UI off for the last 10)

i just noticed, my mission to jool's moons took roughly 4 years :v:

obviously really edited since the total flight time was 70 minutes
So what are you all using to get to the new planets? Does MechJeb still work or is everything manual? I haven't installed the update yet, just curious.

eh i still eyeball it
also if anyone wants the ship from that video:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11517902/Plane%20Probe%20II.craft
needs the heavy strut from the KW pack though and the rover mod. other than that i think it is stock
do any other planets or bodies come up in the transfer panel in Mechjeb? all I get is both minmus and mun but then when I get to either of them nothing comes up. any Ideas on how to get to them?
ugh
mechjeb can only transfer to objects currently in your SoI
either orbit kerbol, or use
www.ksp.olex.biz
I made a video and stuff.

Huh, so I was trying to make a plane, and I was getting frustrated since just about everything I made flipped out at the slightest provocation. So I started over and just stuck a bunch of wings on a fuselage, and it flew great. I even managed to land it. So did I get lucky or is just putting a bunch of wings on planes a good idea in general in ksp?
The OP doesn't say anything about this, so I'll ask here:
What are the default tools I should get, as well as parts for sattelite/rover missions? Back in my day we had none of those fancy Mechjeb thingies or anything.
Can someone please make a tutorial on how to get to other planets? I'm using the calculator things and I have a piece of paper with the alignments but I can't even get NEAR to another planet.
Im sort of surprised that my 3 stage moon lander rocket got to duna. I haven't nailed down the transfer yet, and it was really inefficient. I had barely enough fuel to land, and when I did I landed in standard kerbal fashion and tipped over.

This could be a perspective issue, but how did you fuck up the inclination that bad?

He probably aimed for it from pretty far away, and/or was worried about fuel. Besides, does it even matter if he's not making a return trip?

Even the slightest incorrect angle,a fraction of a degree off when you're coming from Kerbin could mean you're captured by the planet above or below it's equator and therefore will enter into a non-equatorial orbit

Yeah, I know, it's just not that easy to get into a non-equatorial orbit if you're paying attention.
Finally updated and got 0.17! ...And I'm doing horribly without mechjeb.
I still suffer from the Space Kraken, my engines just fall off after warp.

I had that, just use the unbreakable joints on the debug panel.

I've heard that doesn't work, but I'll try anyways, thanks.

Works for me, I think they guy who said it didn't work was having issues with it not stopping mechjeb from disconnecting the pod when trying interplanetary transfers.
debug panel what share your magic

You press alt+f4 and open the console, then set collision to 0.
