Finally made it to Duna. 2000 meters from the surface, game crashes. Fuck. Damnit.
I dunno how to stage rockets any more, how the fuck do I get enough stages in using just the stock parts to get to orbit and then to another planet? [editline]22nd September 2012[/editline] I seem to need ludicrous amounts of fuel

[editline]22nd September 2012[/editline] I seem to need ludicrous amounts of fuel
I'm sure my rocket isn't great, but I have 15 (5 stacks of 3) large fuel tanks for my first stage, then a smaller sized stage to get me in orbit and a bit further, then a stage with a nuclear engine, then a small lander. It can get into orbit around Eve and Duna, and land on the moons. EDIT: It really helps a lot if you can use either the Mun or Minmus as a slingshot to escape Kerbin's gravity well.
These engines seem to soak up fuel like nothing nowadays, like, what the fuck, a thirty second burn from a full tank of fuel? Really?
These engines seem to soak up fuel like nothing nowadays, like, what the fuck, a thirty second burn from a full tank of fuel? Really?
They fixed the consumption rate bugs.
that would be the consumption fix you know you weren't supposed to basically have infinite fuel if you ran it at 1% thrust
No, but, thirty seconds on one tank of fuel is still ridiculous. It's like a car getting 0.1 MPG. Also, they still haven't fixed the "Everything flies fine for three minutes, then randomly explodes" bug. [editline]22nd September 2012[/editline] And the physical simulation mode is really not very stable. Perfect rocket to jello in 0.3 seconds.
No, but, thirty seconds on one tank of fuel is still ridiculous. Also, they still haven't fixed the "Everything flies fine for three minutes, then randomly explodes" bug.
It's probably more down to the exact altitude you are reaching at 3 minutes into flight and a faulty rocket design. Try throttling back when you reach the altitude you normally explode at and then increase throttle again when you're a few thousand meters above that altitude.
No, but, thirty seconds on one tank of fuel is still ridiculous. It's like a car getting 0.1 MPG.
Don't think of it in terms of time, but in terms of thrust, which also depends on the engine you're using.
Also, they still haven't fixed the "Everything flies fine for three minutes, then randomly explodes" bug
What bug is that? I've never had that happen, unless I had a poorly designed rocket that fell apart from how force was applied to it.
And the physical simulation mode is really not very stable. Perfect rocket to jello in 0.3 seconds.
That's why they give you a warning when you try to use it. It's fine for speeding up some things, but most of the time it's just going to break your craft.
I just use physwarp for landing mostly
ok so way back in the old days KSP had speed warp while under acceleration but it caused a bug that exaggerated physics and made shit explode so they removed the feature now in .17 the feature returned and shit still goes out of control and explodes at x4 warp why

Just made my closest Mun landing yet! I've made a terrible mistake.
Still to small for my rover, Guess I will have to try out the other one.
I can't remember if I mentioned this before; I think it would be amazing to have a Rover Construction Building that gives us smaller and lighter parts with which to construct rovers. You wouldn't use rocket parts to put a rover together in real life. I just feel as though it would make delivering payloads much easier if they could have a lot of functionality at a realistic weight cost

So this rocket is capable of getting a Rover-packed aeroshell to Duna NASA-style. However getting the trajectory right is in your hands.
At the last second, we manage to close our trajectory and we'll now fall towards Kerbin after getting to our 3mi km high Ap. Once we're past it, we start burning retrograde nonstop. Just one problem. We forgot about reentry. The atmosphere hits us hard, and most of our ship dissolves as we go deeper into the thick atmosphere. [t]http://i.minus.com/iciY7ZTqzcSuN.PNG[/t] Jeb fights bravely, but nature prevails this time. This is the last image received from the cockpit's video feed: [t]http://i.minus.com/iORyhciOyAzeD.PNG[/t] rip jeb
There is a reason why i put a parachute on the command capsule. If things go horribly wrong I can usually get into the atmosphere and deploy the chute and land somewhat safely with minimal explosions.
i like where this is going but... [t]http://puu.sh/17IiH[/t] Good idea y/n? The landing part works - the rocket mega-skycrane can compensate for any combination in lack of atmosphere for the parachutes or over presence of gravity. But a few other questions: Is the scanner worth using literally on the ground? I could potentially get a satellite to do most of the scanning for me, later. Assuming EVE or any other planet with a light atmosphere is generally flat, the DEMV has a cruise control module that I can leave on an alt-tab for, but will the scanner physically work? I mean that aside, does Kethane mod work at all in 0.17?
EVE IS A BITCH because the landing takes out all the kethane mining shit the whole 600 day mission was for [editline]22nd September 2012[/editline]
i like where this is going but... Wow, I had a rocket that was just a fuel tank, engine, adv. sas, decoupler, pod, and parachute, and the engine snapped off at max warp. I guess it's even less stable than I thought.

Don't use a scanner on the ground, it won't work over a large enough area to be worth your time. Just put one in a polar orbit, set it to 5x or 10x, and let it scan for a while. some might call it ragequitting rocket design [t]http://puu.sh/17Lgq[/t] i call it getting 12 tons of science into space
I just exploded. IN THE MAP VIEW.
Has anyone tried this yet? Because if not, I'm surprised: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/z1yiD.jpg[/thumb]
I just managed to download .17 tonight. [2:30:51 AM] Segasaturn95: I could imagine launching multiple service modules in advance, and then using them to intercept heavy craft and position them in orbit around other planets [2:31:38 AM] Segasaturn95: I've been thinking about powersat and other similar plugins adding remote functionality to space stations and satelites made with our parts [2:32:27 AM] Segasaturn95: in the future, not only will we be landing on planets, we will be able to expand and explore by managing our resources in orbit, rather than waiting for new launches [2:32:41 AM] Segasaturn95: a still more glorious dawn awaits :D
I have no idea how to get into Sol orbit. Or how to properly transport the DENV. Or how to get enough fuel onboard. Or even how to get out of a multiple-manned vehicle and then switch back inside.
Not sure if this one was posted, but this is the third and final easter egg on Duna [sp]MSL's camera mast[/sp]
Could you link me to the rover mod thingie you're using here?
