Spaceplane: [editline]18th May 2012[/editline] Once it hit atmosphere it started tumbling like a madman, making a glide-in landing impossible. I had to settle for the chutes.
I love waking up and finding 50+ new posts in here.
Welp I finished the plumbing. Here I color coded it :D It is actually the most accurate fuel system with booster pumps I have done yet lol. should make for a nice short little lander engine. I think it is like 0.4m in height. in the end it should be ~3000-3500 polies.
These revamped C7 parts gave me an idea (because the wings fluttered so much). Would it be possible to make folding flying surfaces? Because a folding wing would be pretty handy for spaceplanes riding on top of rockets.
It really is really small.
Did they add Jeb yet? We need that beyond minmus as a hidden goody.
Landed on the minmus, I WAY overdid my rocket and had to dump an entire unused stage :v: you can also see the 2nd last stage being somewhat intact, only the engine of it broke [editline]18th May 2012[/editline] I only used half a bit more than half of the tanks on the sides of this reaching minmus and slowing down to get in orbit [editline]18th May 2012[/editline] I only used like 2% of the RCS at my landing stage, should've taken a parachute :(
What? Add Jeb?
That theoretical planet on the edges of the solar system with all the weird crap happening to it. I'd get the picture, but I don't think I'd be able to find it any time soon.
I just realised you could make horizontal landers legitimately now, so I did that. only thing is that the legs are doing weird as fuck
That theoretical planet on the edges of the solar system with all the weird crap happening to it. I'd get the picture, but I don't think I'd be able to find it any time soon.
Right, I remember.
wait I found a solution retract legs after landing :v: [editline]18th May 2012[/editline] I feel like a mad scientist [editline]18th May 2012[/editline] it works amazingly well though, gonna get it to the mun along with Horizon (the horizontal lander :v:)
SO, The Kerbals have done something amazing! The history of Kerbalkind will forever be marked by this event, when they sent their first autonomous robot to the tiny natural satellite of Minmus! The scientists were very excited about this because it showed that they were capable of sending something to an object with a nonzero inclination. However someone back on Kerbin was not convinced, and would like to tell you about the First he would like to show you this image taken by the rover, when it photographed the engine from it's descent stage: Pay attention to the hill in the background! Here's the next image, where the rover photographed the fuel tank from the descent stage: Notice anything strange? The same hill is the background, while the foreground has changed. How is this possible if the mission was real?? And there's another one! It's all gone! The hill is there, but suddenly there's nothing in the foreground! The ONLY way this is possible is with a standard backdrop with a hill on it! Have a superimposed image so that you can make up your own mind, which means agree it's fake: Clearly the scientists are tricking us, and all the space travel is fake because the radiation.
I got Apollo 7 (Orbiter NASSP) plugin into orbit. It's okay, I can try again. Yay, this time - liftoff. Off to the moon! Can someone PM a mirror for KSP_win_0_15.zip that isnt from kerbalspaceprogram.com? Im downloading it at 15kb/s, and after ~3 hours it justs disconnects. here's proof i bought the game: [t]http://puu.sh/vnWx[/t]

Yeah, the normal maps are god damn awful.
Yeah, the normal maps are god damn awful.
Hello there! I've been following this thread for quite some time, but this is the first post that I've made on Face Punch. I just wanted to say a few things. I'm well aware of what you think of my work. Frankly, I understand why you don't like it. I'm not very happy with it either... I made those parts for fun a long time ago, and put them together as quickly as possible to test to see if I could make things work in the game. I never intended them to be used as official parts, and I didn't plan to make them perfectly mesh with the game's art style either. So yes, they don't match. Yes, they are quickly constructed and poorly textured. The normal maps are simply based on image processed versions of the diffuse maps. (The shader Mu made is excellent, as I'm sure you'll find out) It was the epitome of a rush job. I'm not proud of them, and I would much rather of not released them at all. They are there as a simple placeholder for the SpacePlane parts. I'll be going through and steadily removing them and replacing them with parts specifically designed for KSP. They will have properly crafted, hi-res normal maps, and correctly constructed meshes / colliders. I don't take offense at you not liking my work, but if you are going to criticize it, I would appreciate constructive feedback or advice. Saying something is "god damn awful" is not helpful to anyone. The reason the parts have the "lumpy" effect is due to the normal map processing. It perceives shading in the part as a change in elevation. Ideally you would not base normal maps off of a diffuse map at all. Instead I would create a heightmap specifically for the part and convert that instead. Or preferably I would bake out the normal maps from a higher polygon model. This is something I fully intend to correct and replace on the parts.
Can anyone share their save of a working space plane (vanilla)? I can't seem to get my planes working :v: [editline]18th May 2012[/editline]
I don't take offense at you not liking my work, but if you are going to criticize it, I would appreciate constructive feedback or advice.
Nice to know those are placeholders. Your parts (while being awesome geometry-wise) look like they have been bent, or like they're made of paper (can't really describe it, but you see I'm not the only one complaining)
Can anyone share their save of a working space plane (vanilla)? I can't seem to get my planes working :v:
What do you mean by "can't get them working"? Can you not get the balance right or something? Because as long as you don't try and go too crazy with your plane designs, they should work more-or-less fine. Also, here's a basic in-atmosphere plane if you want it, for some reason: https://www.dropbox.com/s/csoptmqp4j17v59/Falko XF-3.craft
This one for example doesn't want to take of at all
If the engines aren't working, it's because there aren't any fuel pipes (as far as I can see) connecting the engines to the fuel tanks. If it flips out of control on takeoff, I'd assume it's because all your flying surfaces (wings for laymen) are toward the back. You want to make sure that the lift generated by your wings is focused on or around the center of the plane, not any one side.
is there a way to make your input less sensitive. like so i can fly a plane without tapping left/right furiously to try and correct for over-steer :v: [editline]18th May 2012[/editline] this probably the best functioning plane i've ever built
I just made one of these for myself and all I can say is "why didn't I think of that?" It works so well.
stuff
My only issue is how your parts don't really blend with the stock parts, or even really that well within your parts (for example: the white cockpits and fuselages vs. the silver-grey engine nacelles). the engine heating effects are awesome btw
This weekend I'll be posting a few tutorials to celebrate the release of .15. The first one I'm doing is a tutorial on using the hangar, making planes, and using the new controls in this update. Then I'm going to do a series of modding tutorials, that will cover the new part tools and code features. Hopefully they'll be done sunday. In the meantime, these links have just been moved to be public. I know you were asking about them CBBP. http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=11795.0 http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=11734.0 Also, yea I don't like the blending either. Its one of the things I want to fix when the parts are redone.
This one for example doesn't want to take off at all
Add some canards, bro
