I was watching the breifing and well.. I though this was hilarious. Are they alluding to some interracial granny porn perhaps? I mean seriously why does he have to hold it like it is coming out of his fly?

Wouldn't it be great if there were folders containing mods on the vehicle assembly UI?
Wouldn't it be great if there were folders containing mods on the vehicle assembly UI?
it would be nice if form the UIO I could determine which parts you want and don;t want to load on the game. some packs have usful things but can be cluttered. I know somepeople might not like some parts of KOSMOS and removing them manuelly is difficult. so this would be a nice feature.
So, has anyone mapped that new planet thing yet?
google tumor.
Been playing the new version. Patched conics, best thing ever.
It acts funny in solar escape velocities, but then again everything does :v:
Anyone mind linking me any "must have" mods? i deleted my .14 when i installed .15 and forgot what ones i had :(

Appears that not enough fuel = high engine pressure. Reminds me of lower power on video card equals over heating. the Irony!!!
You need a vertical stabilizer. Might help... Probably won't
At least it looks cool
Thanks, I added a stabilizer and made it a bit longer, and it works now.

Rocket engines generally don't burn at stoichiometric propellant ratios. They usually burn a higher proportion of fuel than is needed. They do that because fuel rich combustion mixtures burn cooler. If the fuel valve wasn't letting in enough fuel, the engine would have been burning less fuel rich and therefore hotter. When a gas is heated it expands so the increased temperature in the engine due to the combustion mixture being less fuel-rich caused the pressure in the chamber to increase.
Has anyone circumnavigated the globe using only air engines yet?
Here's my current attempt, slow, lumbering, and holding several thousand units of fuel.

I started this at a bad time. Its 1:35am and I'm not even over the first ocean.
Edit:
Fuck, damnit. Nevermind.
I'm trying to do this now. I'm using a sort of Blackbird knockoff. I can get it to cruise at about ~12k meters altitude at ~315m/s. It's pretty fuel efficient I think using only two turbojet engines and a ton of wing area. It's also very stable once the exciting rocket assisted takeoff procedures finish. Right now I've got it flying and I'll see how far I get with this run.
I had tried another run earlier today but had to leave so I just left it alone and came back to see the numbers. I wish I wrote them down but I want to say it traveled about 500k kilometers. I have no idea why it hit the ground, or where. For all I know it rolled over because it was unattended for so long and just hit the ground, or maybe it simply ran out of fuel. I don't know. I think the circumference of Kerbin is about 3.7 million kilometers.
I'm 13 minutes into my current flight. This is the actual flight configuration. I use a set of solid rocket boosters plus a couple aerospike engines to get me to cruising altitude. I'll take a screenshot later of the launch configuration. I'm also noticing as this flight goes on that once it starts cruising, it slowly picks up altitude and speed.

Edit:
Now 19 minutes in and passing just finished crossing the first ocean. Unfortunately I only have about 68% fuel left.

To be honest I hadn't really tried planes before v15, but I see potential.
I started off by making this little nippy thing, it was sketchy as hell. Then I put my joystick in.

So after assaulting the VAB and launch pad with close flybys I decided to go large (naturally).

Not only is it filled with lots of engines, but it also has lots of fuel to accompany that, so I decided to see how far around the globe I could get.

Sometime after this screenshot, it started getting too light for it's own good and as a concequence I started to do lots of front flips. After Pulling it out of so many stalls and flips, often one after the other. I inevitably "landed."
Final land distance was around 1,200km.
neat huh.
Naturally my response to this is "we need to go larger".
The product of that being:

This plane works, but it has one fundamental problem. It lags man. It is impossible to control it as my controls randomly amplify and freeze in position, leading to doing lots of loops before ripping itself apart or crashing.
To conclude,
I like planes.
That looks awesome. How do you make the fans turn like that?
Damned Aerospace pack includes tilt-rotor mechanisms, and variable-sweep wings. That's also where the propellers are from.
Oh shit, due to the guy above me, I just realized that I could have been using my joystick the ENTIRE TIME.
fucking hell tell me I'm not the only one whose landing gears just randomly sink into the ground :suicide:
fucking hell tell me I'm not the only one whose landing gears just randomly sink into the ground :suicide:
You're not.
I so glad planes actually fucking work now.
Well, that was pretty cool.
After an hour and fifteen minutes of flight time, I made it about a third around the world with this design.

Came to a nice, gentle glide landing somewhere in the middle of the giant continent on the other side of Kerbin. Total distance traveled of about 1.4 million km.

For the record, this is the launch configuration. Like I mentioned before I use sets of boosters and some disposable rocket engines to get me up to my cruising altitude. It only lasts about 3 minutes, but without it I would waste a ton of fuel just getting up to altitude. I don't think the plane could even take off without the extra kick.

Staging works as follows: While rolling down the runway, the main jet engines, the central solid rockets, and the wingtip liquid rockets are on. Just after the wheels leave the ground, the central solid booster runs out and two of the other boosters are then fired. Once those run out, the remaining two boosters are fired. The liquid rockets continue to burn, getting the plane to somewhere in the range of 10km before running out and being discarded.

The reason your first flight crashed would be because SAS doesn't adjust its angle relative to the surface, so after flying a quarter way round unattended your plane would be trying to do a nose stand and kill itself.
I've also calculated that my plane is able to cover the circumference exactly once with the amount of fuel it holds, but it's cruise speed is about 200m/s at a ceiling of 8km (fully loaded), and it becomes very unstable at low speeds and needs baby sitting to make sure it doesn't stall (like in the picture), so I think I'll start over.

The first one needs to be trimmed so it pitches up, due to the offset center of thrust caused by its sexy gullwings. The second I made to rectify that, by adding more engines.
Also, if anyone is having any trouble lifting off, just stick a pair of canards on the nose of your plane.
I think the planes need some major control tweaking, because as soon as I get off the runway my controls generally go into ULTRA SENSITIVE MODE and hitting W for half a second will cause my plane to rotate 90 degrees.
First Minmus landing!

Use less control surfaces / better balance.
