Wow! It's like I'm really on the Minecraft Forums!
The MC forums are not so bad from what I have seen. Though I've mostly visited mod threads so that might be why.

It's worse outside of Mod threads.

There was no need for a meme there, and i'm not going to cut down my own home.
Besides, i've got plenty of wood (hurrdurr) of both Jungle and Oak logs
Stop the memes already.
i'm pretty crap at building houses, i can build awesome forts and castles
but simple houses are beyond my grasp.
how do you guys build your houses to make them look amazing?
I've always found that you need to have some differentiation in materials. So don't make your house completely out of planks, for example. Have some logs acting as supports or make the walls out of cobblestone. Even something as simple as a coloured carpet can add a lot. Also, have some small, unnecesary furniture purely for aesthetic purposes. Such as sofas, tables and the like (Which can be made from halfblocks/stairs with signs and pistons respectively.)
I can't really make nice houses. If I use a variety of blocks it starts to look tacky, however it does look good when I'm making an evil fortress with sandstone and netherbrick and such. When I start to get fancy with houses they end up looking like evil lairs :v

If you look at some real buildings and take some ques from those as to what materials go well together (white wool wall with occasional red clay bricks can make a nice whitewashed but worn wall, for example) you can get nice results. Also, one other thing I didn't mention was how half blocks and stairs can be used to add detail in tight spaces, good for small houses.

Only mods can edit thread titles, unfortunately.

I believe you can also edit thread titles under the same circumstances as automerge works.
[editline]6th July 2012[/editline]
That is, within half an hour and not if someone else has replied to the thread.

Strange, I tried editing one of my threads recently and I couldn't. And that was only 5 minutes after the creation of the thread.

Even in mod threads there's page after page of complaining children who are either utterly unable to figure out a simple drag-n-drop installation or clamoring for updates.

Where are minecraft skins located at? On the minecraft website, exactly.
Where are minecraft skins located at? On the minecraft website, exactly.
If you mean player skins, their viewer has been down for ages but there are plenty of third-party websites that offer the same thing, as well as the ability to download the skinfile for reuse.

What would be the best way to have a bunch of dirt grow grass in deserts? I have a tree farm in my desert and I want the dirt to grow grass, as in the actual grass block, not the tall grass item.

Silk touch pick or move grass over using a piston.
Or just make a big trail of dirt leading to grass.
Alright so I just made a giant trail of dirt leading to grass, and it works.

I want to make this more interesting, I'm thinking of creating a giant tower IN the side of the cliff, it'd work like a lighthouse/outpost.
