Nah, it's because it has so big fucking cave complexes oh my god.
Those are actually just regular cave complexes going into each other, since there are many of them in that biome.
Also, hills, cliffs, water, it's just beautiful.

Playing Skyblock for the first time in a while. Things are going pretty smoothly so far! With a good supply of apples (tree farm has yet to be rebuilt) I'm probably going to be pretty much permanently healthy! There's just something about hanging over the edge of a terrifying expanse of nothingness to keep you motivated.
Edit: The newest version of Skyblock is for some reason set in an Ice Mountains biome in 1.3.1, so water will periodically freeze for no reason and it'll sometimes start snowing. Such is life in the... well, not the Zone, but you get the idea.

Put a block over your water to keep them from freezing, or put torches next to the water blocks.
Found a village, tarted it up for a few hours. The villagers all jumped off a cliff, so I burnt the village down.
