I always thought of the End as a sort of "fallen" version of heaven. It used to be a beautiful land in the sky but was corrupted by darkness.
The strongholds were constructed by some long-dead civilization. They were built in three separate locations to ensure that the End's darkness could only enter the world in very small quantities, greatly stalling the spread of the Ender Curse.
So the way I think of it, the world was once composed of Heaven, Hell, and the Overworld, but Heaven was consumed by darkness. None of these realms have distinct "gods". The Ender Dragon is only a manifestation of the Curse, the Overworld's life was devastated by the small amounts of curse that are still coming through the End portals, and the Nether is still filled with demons and lost souls.
Or maybe we're all looking too far into the game.
Also, I love ironman's stories.
I just thought of the End as being some esoteric pocket dimension. It also works equally well as being a substitute for space.
Once upon a time at the foot of a great mountain,
there was a town where the people known as EnderFolk lived,
their very existence a mystery to the rest of the world,
obscured as it was by great clouds.
Here they played out their peaceful lives,
innocent of the litany of excess and violence that was growing in the world below.
To live in harmony with the spirit of the mountain called Ender was enough.
Then one day Minefolk arrived in the town.
They came in camouflage, hidden behind orange pumpkins, but no one noticed them: they only saw shadows.
You see, without the Truth of the Eyes, the EnderFolk were blind.
In time, Minefolk found their way into the higher reaches of the mountain,
and it was there that they found the caves of unimaginable Sincerity and Beauty.
By chance, they stumbled upon the Place Where All Good Souls Come to Rest.
The Minefolk, they coveted the jewels in these caves above all things,
and soon they began to mine the mountain, its rich seam fueling the chaos of their own world.
Meanwhile, down in the town, the EnderFolk slept restlessly,
their dreams invaded by shadowy figures digging away at their souls.
Every day, people would wake and stare at the mountain.
Why was it bringing darkness into their lives?
And as the Minefolk mined deeper and deeper into the mountain,
holes began to appear, bringing with them a cold and bitter wind that chilled the very soul of the Ender.
For the first time, the EnderFolk felt fearful for they knew that soon the Ender would stir from its deep sleep.
And then came a sound. Distant first, it grew into castrophany so immense it could be heard far away in space.
There were no screams. There was no time.
The mountain called Ender had spoken.
There was only fire.
And then, nothing.
^ I literally just listened to that song.
The dance of the breaaaaad.

It works alright, but I think I have to work on it.

What tribal clothing?
They're wearing peasantly robes, that doesn't looks very tribal to me.

That looks really, really nice.
Yup. I like their Tribal Clothing.
Depends on how you interpret the word "tribal".
Personally I think the robes have a Inca-esque look to them, I always think of "The Emperor's New Groove" when I see villages/the villagers, though I may be a minority on that.

They all look like medieval monks to me. The fact that they have no hair only adds to that.

Yeah that makes more sense.
I think of them to be medieval rather than tribal or whatever. The fact they have iron golems as defensive sentries gives me the impression they have basic understanding of machinery / possibly witchcraft to 'power' them.

I do write a lot and have plenty of ideas. Admittedly, for a few of them there is borrowing, such as the Pigman/Enderman dichotomy being taken from Nier, but for the most part the stuff I write is either original or utilising public domain elements, aka my main multiverse having a serious amount of Lovecraft in it.
For an IP that I personally work with I want to be somewhat serious in terms of not borrowing or ripping off anything that isn't public domain, since plagiarism isn't a good thing in official academia, but for non-serious parody-like stuff and things like that i'm not so worried.

Something that might help with the evaporation; the water doesn't have to be a source block in order to become smooth stone so you could do with one source block and put it further away from the lava.
Yeah that makes more sense.
They have those weird nose things though, it might be something in the kinds of plague doctors masks.

Still working towards the Pretty Scary Update. We’re reaching the end of the number of features we want, and will from now on start focusing on polishing up a 1.4 release. Here’s the 12w38a changelog:
-Updated and added new sounds by C418
-Added Pumpkin Pie
-Added a neutral mob
-Added a hostile mob (doesn’t spawn yet)
-Command block target parameters have been upgraded, check here for details:https://gist.github.com/3736487
-Beacon artwork has changed
-Wood trunk blocks are now rotated differently. Instead of using the player’s position, it will rotate based on the face it is placed upon. This is mainly a test, so feedback is welcomed, but for me personally this way is a bit easier.

BATS!
A proper flying mob!?
Holy shit yes.
-Updated and added new sounds by C418
Please tell me this is related to all those sounds that c418 came out with, but they never added. Like the hurt sounds and footstep sounds.

There are new footsteps yeah.
Also the witch is in too, with spawn eggs.
There's a bell sound when you level up and also a nasty sound when yoiu use flint and steel.

Witch
Pffffft
I expected some wretched-looking thing with a hump, and nothing but a big droopy red nose coming from underneath a hat, with everything else obscured by a colored cloak.
And maybe she's holding a lantern up as she gradually creeps closer to you spawning magic orbs and mobs like a proper witch.
This is dissapointingly, hilariously lazy.
I honestly don't think witches fit very well. But bats could stay and fit very well in caves and such.
The witches attack by throwing potions of harm and potions of poison at you, that's it, super lazy. Don't you dare expect me to get excited over this, Jeb.
It's nothing special or unique.
I'd be cool if she could throw a potion that made you trip-out or hallucinate by adding an effect filter over the screen, then proceed to attack you.
Then make the filter an editable asset so that I could be hit by a potion of Matt Damon.
The bats are quite nice though, I wonder if bat-wings be the main ingredient in an invisability potion.
I also wonder if we'll see more interesting flying mobs, like eagles that only spawn above cloud level, or cliff racers that cause rage.

Witch
That's it? Who wants to bet that Jeb made the Witch and Dinnerbone made the Bat.
Jeb is getting as lazy as Notch now and I don't like it.
The Witch is one of the first things in this update I dislike. Apparently some of the new sounds are horrible too. I'll likley just edit the 1.3 sounds over.

Well you should have known it was never going to be that complex.
Nothing in minecraft is.
Can it do magic?
I am not sure if I like the idea of flying bat enemies.

If I'm not mistaken, the flying bats are neutral. So when you hit them they will attack, but never attack you first.
