Holy shit bats. Also the with looks more like a testificate with a miners helmet to me.
Can it do magic? I am not sure if I like the idea of flying bat enemies.
It throws different kinds of negative potions(slowness, poison, etc),I guess you could call alchemy a kind of magic.
Well you should have known it was never going to be that complex. Nothing in minecraft is.
There's a difference between making a unique mob and just recoloring an old one and saying it's a brand new creature.
I don't know why you were all expecting something other than what Dinnerbone said it was going to be.
There's a difference between making a unique mob and just recoloring an old one and saying it's a brand new creature.
But it's got a hat! In all seriousness i think it's alright, lazy yeah but i can forgive that for all the original content we've been getting.
But it's got a hat! In all seriousness i think it's alright, lazy yeah but i can forgive that for all the original content we've been getting.
I think they could have tweaked it a bit more. At least color the skin green.
I honestly quite like the witch, who wouldn't want new mobs(even if they're not very uniquely implemented)
I was hoping the witch would fly around on a broom and throw black cats at you.
Where will the witches spawn? I think i'd look really weird to just see them walking around with zombies and stuff at night like normal enemy mobs.
Where will the witches spawn? I think i'd look really weird to just see them walking around with zombies and stuff at night like normal enemy mobs.
Born by Villagers, so I've heard.
I wonder what its drops will be.
That's it? Who wants to bet that Jeb made the Witch and Dinnerbone made the Bat. Jeb is getting as lazy as Notch now and I don't like it.
Dinnerbone made the witch, not sure about the bat though.
The new cow sounds are terrifying.
i swear i've heard the level up sound in thaumcraft before edit: skeleton and lava sounds are sweet though. but the cow sounds are really bad. they sound like they cut off, and the most they do is snorting
Freaking bats.
Dinnerbone made the witch, not sure about the bat though.
He made both
i swear i've heard the level up sound in thaumcraft before
Yeah, the wisps make that sound. It's also the sound when you get mail in forestry.
Yeah, the wisps make that sound. It's also the sound when you get mail in forestry.
odd, was it a sound in the game files which was never used? or just a sound one guy made then others used it for mods?
That's it? Who wants to bet that Jeb made the Witch and Dinnerbone made the Bat. Jeb is getting as lazy as Notch now and I don't like it.
See, what did I tell you guys, it would just be another lame Testificate. Granted, I think Jeb or Dinnerbone confirmed it was just another Testiface variation, but here everyone's acting all surprised. Also, does anyone remember when Notch was making great stuff and people had nothing but praise for him? Then everyone got tired of him and Jeb took over and we lauded him like crazy? And now Dinnerbone's in the mix and we're criticizing Jeb's lazy work?
History repeats itself.
Pffffft I expected some wretched-looking thing with a hump, and nothing but a big droopy red nose coming from underneath a hat, with everything else obscured by a colored cloak. And maybe she's holding a lantern up as she gradually creeps closer to you spawning magic orbs and mobs like a proper witch. This is dissapointingly, hilariously lazy.
It's not lazy, it's an homage to retro games!
Also, holy shit witches are tough. They take a load of arrows to kill, and they throw potions of harming or poison. Usually they get hit in the splash damage, but it's never enough to kill them. Bats are annoying to kill, wander around aimlessly, and have no drops. IDK if this was in the changelog or if it was in a previous snapshot altogether, but apparently there are poison potatoes now?
odd, was it a sound in the game files which was never used? or just a sound one guy made then others used it for mods?
It was a sound in the gamefiles that was never used for a while. It was just lingering around and it was called "levelup.ogg" Also, someone check if the unused enderman sounds are now being used. You know what I'm talking about... The screaming and the staring noises.
odd, was it a sound in the game files which was never used? or just a sound one guy made then others used it for mods?
Just did a clean install and it's there (resources\newsound\random\levelup.ogg)
Stone Monster Egg blocks (which spawn Silverfish) will rarely generate underground.[5] Oh FUCK [editline]20th September 2012[/editline] Also, i'd like to contribute to the discussion of the various races in Minecraft by noting how similar Endermen are to bees. There are hundreds to thousands, to potentially hundreds of thousands of male worker bees flying around the hive and amungst the flowers to collect pollen and such similar things (i'm assuming Endermen are actually male as their name suggests) And there is a single female queen bee (the Enderdragon "lays" an egg, so i'm assuming it's female) who is the only source of future females in the colony (the egg can't actually turn back into a dragon in vanilla but you get the idea) and she never leaves the hive unless it is destroyed (the Dragon is found in the End, which acts as a metaphorical hive of sorts)
Fun fact, the Beacon's light beam stops rendering above 318 blocks.

wow, it took me long to notice the witch actually got a wart on the nose
(i'm assuming Endermen are actually male as their name suggests) (the Enderdragon "lays" an egg, so i'm assuming it's female)
Quote on Notch's blog:
[Keep in mind I am no longer the lead developer on Minecraft, Jens is. This post is about what I thought about back when I was making it] If it wasn’t for the fact that the default Minecraft character is referred to as “Minecraft Guy” and that I once jokingly answered “Steve?” when asked what his* name was, Minecraft would be a game where gender isn’t a gameplay element. The human model is intended to represent a Human Being. Not a male Human Being or a female Human Being, but simply a Human Being. The blocky shape gives it a bit of a traditional masculine look, but adding a separate female mesh would just make it worse by having one specific model for female Human Beings and male ones. That would force players to make a decisions about gender in a game where gender doesn’t even exist. All the other mobs in the game are genderless and usually exhibit the most prominent traits of both genders. Cows have horns and udders (even if I’ve later learned that there are some cows where the females do have horns), and the chicken/duck/whatevers have heads that look like roosters, but still lay eggs. For breeding, any animal can breed with any other animal of the same species. Obviously, I’m not saying this is a good way to deal with gender in all games, as the better your graphics are, and because of how quickly the human mind tries to identify the gender of other humans, you are going to have to make a decision as a developer about gender, but I felt we could get away with it in Minecraft. There’s no point to this post. I just wanted to clarify, so there’s an official word on it. Also, as a fun side fact, it means every character and animal in Minecraft is homosexual because there’s only one gender to choose from. Take THAT, homophobes! * I do regret using masculine terms to talk about the default character. These days I try to use the up-and-coming use of “they” as a genderless pronoun.
