How far does Far rendering distance render? 256 blocks?
And does anybody know how far I can change that to with Optifine?

I nearly crashed my computer halfway between far and extreme, so be careful.
Holy shit, I've been playing Terra Firma and it's awesome. It reminds me of when I first started Minecraft, I totally recommend anyone try it.
It says Extreme is inactive for the latest version. I want to try Far. I really hate Minecraft's tiny render distance

I wish minecraft rendered only blocks that are touched by water, lava, and air. That way it wouldnt render the blocks underground when they arent being viewed. It would save a lot on performance and would probably let us have much larger view distances.

The advanced OpenGL feature's supposed to not render the hidden polygons.
Anyone know how to fix this? :( Happens with a lot of textures packs. Some, not all.

It's not that bad, just the dirt, sand and other terrain blocks are way too cartoony.
