It's because the biomes are calculated by the game, not the map data. So when a 1.7 map or so is loaded in 1.8 the bimoes don't line up, and you end up with swamps in random places and frozen oceans, etc.
1.2 will change that as biome data is now stored in the map, but new chunks in 1.3 or such would still be in a different biome (And then map editors could change the biomes, make an entire map tundra, etc.)
I have yet to find single cave in the newest snapshot. I really hope I don't have one of those buggy worlds. I have so much done :(

Anyone else think Minecraft looks a LOT better with a lighter water texture? It may look tropical, but it brightens up the landscape a lot more and is generally just a lot more aesthetically pleasing.
This is the default texture pack but with a slightly tweaked water colour

How do you do that? I tried editing water.png and watercolor.png and putting it in a texture pack, but it didn't work, even after using mc patcher.
Do you have to put it back in the .jar for it to work with those files?

You edit the water textures in terrain.png like you would with any other texture in the game.
Apparently editing water.png and watercolor.png doesn't do anything

There are some tropical themed maps, and you can always use your own texturepack to get such water color.
