Searching for veins of ore sounds better that finding the 4-6 blocks here and there.
Kinda makes sense actually; sparse and small deposits usually mean that there isn't much ore there, but having big seams would be kinda like proper mining.
Also, if there are veins that are large yet hard to find, would some sort of "Prospector skill" be viable, like a latent ability to vaguely sense ore deposits or having certain ambient sound effects play sometimes when there are ores nearby?

Anyone know some good survival mods? I'm hosting a server with friends, but I feel as if it's... missing something. I'm gonna try the Biome mod but apart from that I don't know any good ones.

I don't need any fancy administrating tools or whatever though, simply because we're with 5 players. I want some mods that adds stuff like tools, materials and such. Maybe even expanding on the mining/exploration/investigation aspect of the game.

I actually made an underground city filled with Testificates and placed made a sex club on the west side of town
Thus far, everyone on the east side of town has moved out and now the club is the most popular place in the entire town.

Although it makes it more realistic I guess, it would make the game too easy. Find a pocket of iron, boom you now have a stack of iron ingots. Same with all the other ore types.

Then you would put a block or something in it and at the bottom it would say something like "523 blocks detected" and then you could fly the thing you've built. It would say yaw and shit on the bottom left corner.
I remember this mod from some video that someone poster here on Facepunch. So, does anyone remember?
I know I'm not describing it very clearly, but I do hope someone will tell me the answer.

make the redstone go to the block that the torch is connected too. otherwise the torch will keep the redstone active if directly connected.
