I think there won't be a Portal 2, as Portal is linked to the HL2 universe, it's likely to be featured in Ep3.
I would like a Black Mesa style remake of Opposing Force and Blue Shift. So one that isn't a shoddy remake like HL:Source.

And if HL2:Ep3 comes out next year it will have taken Valve the same time it took them to make HL2 to make what are basically three map packs. >>
Y'know, once they've completed EP3 and Portal 2, it'd sure be interesting to see them churn out something completely different, like that game they planned on making after Half-Life, called Prospero.

The original HL2 had 14 chapters, which was pretty long.
EP1 had 5 chapters, pretty darn short, even for an "expansion".
EP2 had about 7 chapters, a bit longer, but still small-fry compared to the original.
If EP3 is gonna be about as long as the original, then it could range from about 10 to 15 chapters, if we're lucky.
Besides, the "sign-language" technology they're allegedly implementing might prove for advanced squad control, perhaps even bigger than the simple "go there, come back" mentality of the HL2 squad control and the Antlion Bugbait (although the latter doubled as a low-level stun grenade). I do hope they bring back the Bugbait in EP3, with similar advanced commands...

Half-Life 2 took [b]6 YEARS[/b] to be developed, but then again they did make a full-blown sequel to L4D in one year, so i guess they can pull it off in about 2 - 4 years.
But of course Episode Three will be bigger than Modern Warfare 2 (for obvious reasons) and seeing as a few million gamers are waiting for it will get Valve to become more popular than Activision :3:
