Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they do the same thing with UE2 aswell?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they do the same thing with UE2 aswell?
As far as I know, No.
No they haven't released the Ue2 engine, but so many mods used it because ut 2003/4 were so easy to get even back then. Well cant wait for the new rush of games despite the possibilities are lacking in some areas of customization, but you've got a lot to work with.
Needs more UnrealScript documentation.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they do the same thing with UE2 aswell?
You're probably thinking of iD software. If I remember correctly, they open-source their engines when they're past their prime.
That move is epic
Asking only 25% isn't bad considering the engine license used to be upwards of $250,000.
They only want money if you make more than 5k as well. Sell a 5$ game to 1000 people, discontinue it, and bam! You got money, people got a game, and you don't owe anyone.
wait is the engine itself entirely in unreal script?
wait is the engine itself entirely in unreal script?
No, you get binaries. No source code. But you don't need source to make games, only to update engine.

Anyway, this is a great move from Epic, we'll probably see many more indie games now + ut3 mods made standalone. And they'll stil be making some decent money with this as thousands of developers start to use it, even if they only get a few k$ from each on average.
Would be extremely helpful if someone made a video tutorial. [editline]04:35PM[/editline] Games that used UE3: Unreal Tournament 3 Gears of War Degeneration Theory: Cataclysm Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 Section 8 Batman: Arkham Asylum Mass Effect Mass Effect 2 Bioshock Tom Clancy's End War Mirror’s Edge Eventide Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway Turok Frontlines Fuel of War RoboBlitz Imagine the stuff that we could create!
Might be a stupid question, but do i need to have an UE3 game installed for this to work? [editline]05:36PM[/editline] Oh wtf, my avatar is changed :crying: I don't have my old one :argh:
Might be a stupid question, but do i need to have an UE3 game installed for this to work? :
NO. These are the standalone binaries.
Awesome :v: thanks for the fast reply, lol :3:
Hey now since UE3 is free, we can make fuck shit up :D
Fuck Shit Up with the Unreal 3 Engine would be laggy as fuck. The Unreal engine doesn't handle destruction too well. If you thought it did, most of it was prescripted/animated.
I wish I knew how to code so I could make something fun. I guess it's never too late to learn.

This is awesome, is Unreal 3 Engine easy to mod?
Hopefully, we can look forward to some incredibly generic games :downs: But I like all aspects of gaming, so I'm good.
Needs moar sidescrollers made with this engine.
Man, I need to get my dual-screen setup back up and running. The fucking content browser you pretty much need to have open all the time, and you can't minimize it, so you lose a good portion of the main window.
Suddenly boxes, thousands of them.

I've never touched the engine myself, obviously since it's a closed engine you don't need C++ to edit it directly. Does it use UnrealScript entirely?
It still has no AA right? And it uses unrealscript and Kismet, a visual scripting language. No idea what kismet is though.
Awesome!!
Had a quick search on Google, there's this , with a free demo found here. Not sure whether that counts.
