If you don't enable the HD models the Citizens use the HD textures from the old versions of the mod that a lot more people actually liked.
Main characters use their default HL2 skin though.

So I was playing this - without custom character models, for obvious reasons - and I made it to Ravenholm. Suddenly new Fast Zombie model. I reflexively emptied all my SMG grenades on its corpse and then killed myself, shut down the game and uninstalled the mod. That fast zombie model is horrible.

From everything I've seen of fakefactory, this talk of a female fast zombie doesn't come as a surprise to me. But I won't believe it without a picture (media it if nsfw) or if I see it with my own eyes and I'm not gonna waste 30gb of my harddrive just for that. Well, no pictures so I think it's safe to assume that the zombies thing was a joke.
My favortie part is how hes re-done all the characters about 500 times, and then all the props have dirt/rust/grime slapped on them as an overlay in photoshop, then whatever comes out tends to be abused up the ass by the sharpen tool and once all that is done, a detail map is added in the vmt.
The result being really disgusting looking props. You'd think someone trying to 'improve' Half-Life 2 would eventually start updating props and what not.

I think the main problem with non-NPC FF textures is that most of the time they're way too clean looking. Considering how you're going through an old Russian City that's suffered over 20 years of neglect and damage you'd think things would be alot more dirtier.
The new additions to the maps are definitely the best thing about it though. Maybe the only positive thing in this compared to a whole lot of negatives.

I'm pretty sure everyone in HL2 is malnourished thanks to their usual diet of soy rations and drugged water, with the occasional watermelon sometimes found in some of the apartment kitchens and pumpkins in the Outlands.
