I don't think it will be nearly as good as the games. For one, you aren't fucking playing it as your own character that you designed. For two, you can't make your own fucking decisions. For three, it is a movie and won't have nearly enough time to show you the depth of detail that the developers went into when they designed the Mass Effect universe.
In fact, I am entirely unsure how this movie will actually work at all. Is the main character even Shepard?
I'm pretty sure I won't enjoy this movie. The games are fucking brilliant, deep, and [i]interactive[/i].
It'd probably turn out alright, as long as the movie is not about shepard.

Actually, who the hell is the target audience for this anyway? If it's Mass Effect fans, why the hell would you base it off one of the games? Everyone would know the twists and everyone would know what happens. If it isn't Mass Effect fans, why would you risk angering the fanbase, as we've already started to see occur, when you could just come up with a new story not centered around Shepard.
If I were a screenwriter, I would much prefer having the freedom to write a whole new story in an established universe, rather than trying to adapt a large, pre-existing story into a movie that only lasts an hour or two.

If it's based around the first game, they couldn't add in Jack, Miranda and Mordin without completely rewriting the story.
It's not like Mass Effect is exempt from having a bad movie due to the universe they have to work with. Look at the Wing Commander movie. They had tons of stuff to build off of and the movie still crashed and burned.

I'm hoping though if they do make this, it would show the events leading up to Mass Effect.
Story of the Quarians and the Geth. The Turians. Show what happened to the Protheans. And all of those others. Even including the First Contact War.
Now that would make a great movie. Instead of a movie based on what happens in Mass Effect 1 and 2.
Would be great if it was set at the beginning of the first contact war, they've already got a prequel to the first game from the novels that explains more than enough about how the situation started.
It would be sweet if they had the same people creating the soundtrack.

I think bioware has a team of 20 or so working on mass effect cinematics, most of them ex-machinima makers and I assume they are all busy working on ME3 currently.
Zach is a cool guy though, would love to see him working on movies too.
