Nope, AP alistar is best alistar.
People say this about pretty much any tank that has AP abilities. Honestly, AP tanks are ok at what they do, but building no durability and having only AP makes you pretty much useless for your team since you're basically another squish. AP Alistar - I can smash stuffs and heal my teammates, but I'm slow and die in half a second. Why not play Soraka? Your heal is useful, you have speed, killing potential, and range. Hell, honestly I'm surprised that I haven't seen someone try to say AP Malphite is amazing. Probably simply due to his E running on Armor.

I've only played AP Alistar once, and I went like 6/1/9. I was playing with my level 20 friends, though.
That was about a month ago fyi. It was
Dwragon rocked AP malphite and did pretty well. But only two skills that scale. He at least had his shield passive for durability and at least gets MR per level.
Ap amumu is hilariously fun to play, and it's more viable than AP alistar by a longshot but like other tanks his abilities require him to get up into enemies faces and often have CC attached to them (pulverize, bandage toss, CotSM, headbutt, etc).
The way I see it, the ratio is there for you to make the most out of the little bit of AP you can work into the build, not to build full AP and become a melee range burst nuker.
Nunu and Cho are the best AP tanks in my opinion.
Yeah. Although they're supposed to be mage-y anyway.
[editline]20th January 2011[/editline]
AP malphite with Rylais hnggggggggg
slows everywhere
Ohey, they're making the bots smarter and introducing a new lobby for it. Cool.
So wait this tribunal shit means that now instead of just not being able to ban terribads you now get to get banned for yelling at them? GJ RIOT SO FUCKING SMART GO RELEASE ANOTHER 6300 FEMALE SHIT CHAMP
Q: I just got reported. Does this mean I will be reviewed by the Tribunal?
A: It depends, but generally, no. Players are only reviewed by the Tribunal if there is significant evidence to support a need for their behavior to be reviewed. Our system takes a variety of factors into account as player reports roll in, so simply getting reported once is unlikely to land you in front of the Tribunal. Here are a few of the factors considered before you find yourself on the docket:
Accounts that accrue a large volume of player reports are much more likely to be reviewed.
New accounts are judged more stringently than veterans.
The reputation of the player who is reporting you will also be taken into account. Reports made by level 30 summoners with clean record will be weighed more heavily than those submitted by newer accounts and/or those whose reputation has been tarnished by frequent harassment reports.

Cho sucks. Nunu is actually worth something.

Summoners!
Every grizzled veteran of the Fields of Justice was once a spring chicken waiting to fall prey to a Grandmaster at Arms, Frost Archer, or Barbarian King out there at some point. We also know that even if you’re a grizzled veteran ready to go hunting for a spring chicken as a Grandmaster at Arms, Frost Archer, or Barbarian King, sometimes you just need a little practice to keep yourself sharp!
We’ve been hard at work augmenting our AI, allowing us to produce more and more challenging and complicated computer controlled enemies. In the near future, players will be able to experience the fruits of these labors by joining a matchmaking queue that will pair them against a team of enemy AI bots on Summoner’s Rift. Presently, players will be able to select from either Beginner or Intermediate skill level, then join a queue that will pair them with a team of allies seeking a similar challenge. This fast, convenient way of finding an appropriately matched cooperative session makes for the perfect practice venue for players who are either just starting out or testing a new champion.
Here are a few of the new AI opponents that you might run into on the Field of Justice:

Renekton

Trundle

Miss Fortune

Ashe

Warwick

Cho’Gath

Taric

And more!
Now, you might ask, what’s the difference between these bots and the ones currentlyavailable in custom games? Well in addition to the new available champions, you might spot these bots performing such devious actions as ganking mid, defending dragon, or purchasing Guardian Angel Armor. Moreover, you’ll have IP and XP rewards for Co-op play will be greater than those awarded by standard Custom Games.
So when you’re feeling rusty, or just want to take a new champion for a test drive, you’ll soon be able to hop in the queue and let us find some bots for you![/release]

This will be so great for new champion testing if they are actually competent bots.
I really hope WW bot jungles so that new players can practice counter jungling and playing against junglers.

I see so many AP Alistars get dropped easily it's insane, and I've dropped a couple before. The high base HP doesn't help when the enemy player has more damage. Your ultimate really only makes you invincible if you've been stacking tank items, otherwise you're just slightly more durable. Oh, and using flash as a defensive spell kinda breaks your positioning combo.
I do not approve of AP Alistars and probably won't be convinced otherwise. Tank Alistar is just so much helpful for the team.
The bot thing sounds great.
jesus fuck that's a lot of ip
Inb4 annie bot manages stacks and can tibers stun you to death with perfect positioning.
They need to make bots that know how to ward and are competent in team fights. Something tells me even if I pick a character I never played before in this new mode I'd roll them.

Tank allistar no dmg only 2 cc every 10 seconds. why would you be using flash defensivley. why are you 1v1ing people with more damage. How is the ultimate useless without tank items

That CC can win you teamfights and Alistar would be sucking up the damage for your team with no worries since he's near invincible. And my point with the slow speed was he's easy to constantly hit with damage without him being able to retalliate. Unless he was flashing in to knock back an enemy for an easy kill, which probably won't happen a lot unless you've got a good lane partner that's put an enemy at critical, you'd be using it defensively. Though honestly packing something like ghost would be better for that purpose.
I'll admit, the ult is still useful even without tank items, but it's far from "invincible". It's like saying that Vladimir is invincible with a Warmogs. It's extra durability, but it won't make you invincible. Honestly I see most AP Alistars as being just plain feeders since they generally can't get kills without a lot of items, they don't have enough potential to kill early and even midgame usually to get gold through that, and AP Alistar is just bad at farming. Honestly, unless you've been getting fed up the ass or have stacked a bunch of philosphers stones and just instabought a full build from your 20k gold pool, you're going to be outdamaged by the enemy team.
Tank Alistar is near invincible and has 2 spammable CCs that can completely change the game.
AP Alistar is beefy enough to survive the laning phase, has the same CCs that do some damage late game, and has a viable heal. Unless he's well fed.
I'd rather have a Tank Ali on my team any day.

Damage late game? Pulverize does 300 damage level 5 and that's not even with items or close to late game. Saying Tank Alli has 2 spammable CC's doesn't say anything as AP alli is exactly the same. AP Alli get's butt loads of AP with his Mejais just from getting assists. You must be pretty bad at last hitting as he can do that just as well as any else, and he has pulverize, plus he can pretty much farm uninterrupted with a decent lanemate as he can shrug off any harass with lvl 1 E. 20 K? AP Alli will wreck your shit with 3 rings, a mejais, and a CDR/merc treads.
i like the new graphics and ui

Ok, a Mejai's isn't going to help you unless you or your lane partner are getting kills. Your farming isn't going to be efficient even if you can ignore damage for a good period of time and just hitting Q. As soon as the enemy gets armor penetration, assuming they don't already have enough to hurt you significantly with runes/masteries, you're going to hurt a lot. If your lane partner gets dropped, which is likely to happen early on if the enemy team realizes they won't be hurting you early on, you're going to be just as easy to drop.
AP Alistar is viable if you play him right. Not nearly as useful as Tank Alistar though. Hardly anyone can play him right and pretty much every other AP Alistar I see basically just feeds. Honestly I'd rather have any other Tank building AP rather than Alistar.
