The thing about BR's is it's a real shame that they get the bad reputation.
We probably see a lot of BR players, but the only ones we recognize are the stereotypical UHEUEHEUEHU BRBRBRBRBR ones who feed. The other 90% of the BR community speaks decent english and is polite enough that they don't go BRBRBRBRBR and you don't even know they are from Brasil unless you directly ask them.

I happen to have 3150+ IP and I've been wanting a good Support Champ. Liking Soraka, but I think I'll give Karma a try when she comes out. If I don't like her I'll go for Soraka. Any support chars that really stand out? I haven't explored Support a lot so I don't know much about it.

If you want support with damage, try Zil, if you want support that makes damage happen, try Janna.

I'm a major support player. I'm extremely excited for Karma's release. I think she's going to be a key mechanic in the new early game. Anyway - if you want to be sheer support, go with Soraka. She, while not being the highest scoring champ, is what wins games. I probably lose 1/10 games I play with her.
If you're looking to deal some serious damage early game and participate in team fights, I'd say Zilean is your guy. He's simple to play, and I personally think he is quite boring.
Sona used to be tons of fun, but she, unfortunately, was nerfed into the ground.
Those are really your main support characters.
I'd say definitely wait for Karma, she seems to be the most unique/interesting release in a long time.
