If you stick to fluff (and I hope to god they do) then playing a Tyranid or Necron would make absolutely no sense unless they added in a whole lot of bullshit. I don't see why Tau wouldn't work though.
Because they have a caste system - each unit has it's own purpose. You wouldn't see a firewarrior running round with a burst cannon or flamethrower, those are what battlesuits are for.
Unless they are either a Commander or an Elite, they would be mostly the same as everyone else.

I probably should have thought of that. Still I see it being a lot more feasible than playing as Necrons or Tyranids.

Actually they could could pull of playing as Tau if they went with some of the Farsight Enclave.

Problem with the Farsight Enclave is that no one knows what really happened, and it would limit the ability for certain things - eg kroot appearing in game. It is definatly more plausable then Necrons or Tyranids, though. Tau mercenaries might be possible - but i can't remember if there are actually any.
Darnit
I was hoping it was going to be the first mmo fps
i guess not.
fuck.
First? Theres a fair few.
i really fucking hate playing games that i have to pay for every time i log in, so much money wasted.
all i want to do is pay for it once and paly it to my hearts content, i dont like wasting hundreds each year while playing one game
this game looks awesome and i really, really want it, but if it is not subscription free i will punch a kitten

What's wrong if it's not? What would be the point in customization and things if you can't see your character?
I think it's going to be a TPS.

The thing is, a normal game would cost £30-£60, which will probably last you 1-3 months. This is £8 a month, but will be updated with new content and is an MMO which means more content than a non-mmo game = better value for money.
How would they pay for server costs and other things? There will probably be several servers with hundreds of players each, and possibly both a EU and a US version. Just buying the game alone isn't enough to pay for all that. Micro-transactions wouldn't be good either, as players could just buy their way to the top.
You should judge the game on the content once it is released, not by the price before it has even been confirmed.

I'm sure they could find a reasonable way to put Tau in. Doesn't really bother if they do or don't since I'm going to roll Guardsman anyway. I just hope they won't have ass tons of SPEHSS MAHREENS running around.
thq are keeping their minds open to subscription or free to play, they are actually considering the free to play aspect
I see titans, so if they allow it, my only goal will to become a princeps.
thq are keeping their minds open to subscription or free to play, they are actually considering the free to play aspect
Free to play is fun for games that you just want to try out. If it a game you actually plan to play then it's not to great because you basically be paying the subscription or more for things that would already be in the game.
Space Marines aren't the only ones who have titans.
Space Marines don't have titans full stop. Adeptus Mechanicus only (on the Imperial Side, at least, obviously everyone else has titans)

Free to play is usually shit because you have to pay for content to get anything done in a reasonable amount of time. See DDO. With subscriptions you get access to everything.
Free to play with microtransactions would be shit. Same with F2P with "premium" subscriptions. Pure F2P would just ruin the potential for expansions (less money = less spending on adding stuff).
Subscription is the only way to go.
Only thing i hope is that the subscription isn't a lot.
Only thing i hope is that the subscription isn't a lot.
Will probably be the same or slightly lower than WoW's.
i hope its lower, and only monthly depending on how much you play it
I wouldn't be suprise if it was lower, People who have never played an MMO are most likely to go for the cheaper one if it does well.
What do you mean by how much you play it? You mean paying for game time instead of per-month? That wouldn't work and would end up costing more.
I hope they don't have imperial guard as a faction, i hope they have Human instead and give you the choice to fight for the Imperium, Chaos or no one.

Imperial Guard are part of the Imperium and a big part of 40k so they will be in there even if you can't play them (I hope I can though). As for humans that aren't aligned with the Imperium or Chaos they're out there in the 40k universe but as far as the Imperium is concerned they would all be branded heretics. This is obviously going to be a contested world/system too so any humans in the area would be Imperial/Chaos/dead.

I hope they don't make it so every playable human is automatically Imperial Guard. You should be able to choose if you want to be Imperial, Chaos or like a mercenary or something. The Imperial Guard will DEFINATELY be in it in some way though.

It's likely any humans will have to choose Imperial Guard, Chaos, or Adeptus Mechanicus (not actually part of the Imperium but they do work together) from the start. I'm doubting there will be any human mercenaries.

Probably not now that i think about it.
Eldar/Dark Eldar wouldn't hire mercenaries
Orks wouldn't either
Chaos wouldn't - and it's doubtful anyone would be willing to fight for them
The Imperium would probably deem them Heretics
Tau might, but they probably won't be in game

Orks could actually be the mercenaries. Ever hear of Ork freebooters? The Imperium in general wouldn't hire mercenaries but there are those in it that would. Rogue traders, nobles on planets, and such.

Yeah, but i guess it all depends on what sort of scale the game will involve. I was thinking there could be some sort of faction relation system like in WoW or SWG, which is why i suggested mercenaries. Although because it's W40k it will probably be Imperium vs Everything else with no options to choose.

Yeah, the Imperial Guard will be the trash mobs in the endgame raids.

I wouldn't expect much in the way of faction relation other than maybe things like subfactions ie Imperium might hold Admech, Astartes, and Guard while Chaos could be Tzeentch, Nurgle, Khorne, and Slaanesh, and Orks could just be relations with the various different Ork clans. For the scale I think it's going to be a system wide thing as opposed to a single planet though I couldn't confirm that for you.
Yeah, the Imperial Guard will be the trash mobs in the endgame raids.
While the Guard would make for good mobs and they surely will have them in that role I still hold hope for the idea that I may play as a Guardsman.
I hope they don't make Dreadnaughts pilotable - or if they are you shouldn't be able to get out.
Has this game got any updated information yet?
I hope they don't make Dreadnaughts pilotable - or if they are you shouldn't be able to get out.
Agreed on this. The point of a Dreadnought is to be able to keep fighting when your body can't anymore, so making them pilotable is a stupid idea.

Only recent info i can remember is an interview, multi-person vehicles were mentioned but that's all i can remember.
