When you play as a Commissar, you control a squad. Each HP you have, is one conscript.
Makes me laugh, imagine if it was the silly amount of numbers wow tanks have, 150,000 conscripts, lets do this.
There better be the ability to choose which Primarch your under if you choose Space Marine...
There better be the ability to choose which Primarch your under if you choose Space Marine...
Why? Do you mean Chapter? The only confirmed Chapter so far is the Black Templars.
I just want to be a commissar.
Looking at some of the screenshots, there might not be playable Imperial guard . Looks like it might just be Human judging from these pictures, which are definately not Space marines or Imperial guard. It might be possible to join the Guard though. I'm assuming these are actual players, due to what they are doing (using cover, in groups). Although it's possible they are NPC. It looks cartoony :saddowns:
It looks cartoony :saddowns:
Only as cartoony as 40k is in real life... It's both dark and not so serious at the same time, if you get my meaning.
It looks cartoony :saddowns:
Looks like similar art style to the Dawn of War games.
It might not be cartoony, but it's nowhere near as dark as WH40k should be.
It might not be cartoony, but it's nowhere near as dark as WH40k should be.
I think it looks pretty nice. This is still early in development so the graphics might change a little bit.
I wonder if we'll get any news on Dark Millenium's inner workings at GDC
I'm looking forward to this very much indeed. My first choice is a techpreist, and maybe later a guardsman. But from what would make sense to me, is that if your playing a guardsman, they might fluff it so that you are an inquisition acolyte, and later progress to maybe further veteran or commissar (and hopefully spawn guardsman minions to fight for you :buddy:) Also, I'm really happy that they got the space marine proportions correct.
It seems like it will be some sort of guard detachment, seeing how in the second picture the guy is holding a lasgun.
Lasgun does not mean Guard. It is one of the most common weapons in the imperium. It is one of the guns a normal person would be able to easily get hold of. It's cheap, easy to use and ammo can be easily recharged.
I cast a spell of gun shot! It does critical damage!
I cast a spell of gun shot! It does critical damage!
Squad Broken
Actually sir you are wrong. In the first Dawn of War book at the end an imperial guard soldier does indeed become a Space Marine. It can happen, although the majority of Space Marines are drawn from the Chapter's home-world there are cases where they will take an especially brave/skilled soldier. For example the Dark Angels have no home-world they instead draft their members from whatever world The Rock happens to be at.
It is worth noting that the author of the Dawn of War books is an idiot.
It is worth noting that the author of the Dawn of War books is an idiot.
It all depends on how many Multilasers can a single guardsman transport upon his or her own self. The more, the worse the author is.
It all depends on how many Multilasers can a single guardsman transport upon his or her own self. The more, the worse the author is.
Guardsman carrying Multilasers? Somethings not right there.
I need somebody to draw a picture of a Space Marine, a Tau, an Imperial Guardsman and an Eldar skipping through a field of flowers holding hands. An Ork, a Chaos SM, a Dark Eldar and a Necron skipping together would also suffice. [editline]4th February 2011[/editline] I feel these pictures would do well to represent the MMO. [editline]4th February 2011[/editline] Ok, the Space Marine is nearly done. Would anyone like to collaborate with me? You can do the Tau or Eldar since I'm not all that familiar with them. I'll give you a while to respond, but I'll continue in an hour or three if you don't. Don't be afraid to overlap the SM's left leg, either. Call dibs on other races NOW!
Welp, I'm doing the fire warrior myself now. Call dibs on other races!
I might try that. Just might.
Here's my Idea, for what it's worth (not much.) What if, the battles are all Npcs, prespawned, like, squads of space marines, dreadnoughts, Imperial guard commisars generals etc, vs whatever aliens or chaos. And, each player is a spectator-like entity, adn you can just "take over" a troop on your side of the battle, controlling it untill it dies, or you let the ai take over again, and, xp or whatever they use, determines how strong of units you can take over, example, at the beginning, you can maybe take over scouts and guardsmen, and eventually, earn enough experince to take over dreadnoughts, sentinals, space marines, and even heroe units, this style of play would mean that if the fight only has 10 players, 5 on each side, the battle can still be massive, and you can still play whatever you want, have drivable dreadnoughts and titans, but without breaking the lore. just my idea.

There would probably be fights over some of the things aswell.
Why not just make it so there are ass loads of NPCs in addition to any players on the battlefield?
Because the problem is things like pilotable vehicles....the ability to suddenly decide "i'm going to get in that titan and know instantly how to pilot it even though i'm a space marine" is stupid.
Because the problem is things like pilotable vehicles....the ability to suddenly decide "i'm going to get in that titan and know instantly how to pilot it even though i'm a space marine" is stupid.
I was referring more to this statement
this style of play would mean that if the fight only has 10 players, 5 on each side, the battle can still be massive
I suppose I should have just quoted that part. As far as piloting vehicles goes just make skills required for it. An example would be Dark Heresy's "Drive: Ground Vehicle" or "Pilot: Military Craft". You could of course get more specific with it if you want. The idea of actually piloting titans though seems a bit absurd and I'd rather they just made them NPCs.
Or what if instead of having your character get in the vehicle, since of course not every space marine can pilot every single vehicle (or fit), you go out-of-character to control it. So for example, when you 'enter' a vehicle, there's an animation of your character getting whisked away on a drop ship or something and then you gain control of the vehicle you 'entered'.
