Even if they do that, it still does not make sense. You shouldn't be able to switch roles - eg you shouldn't be able to go from a Devastator marine to an Assault marine and then back to Devastator, it's the same thing with vehicle crews.

I think Space Marines actually [I]do[/I] switch roles like that over their years of service provided they survive long enough. I'm not so sure how they go about vehicle crews but is it really all that far fetched to be qualified in the operation of multiple vehicles? In Double Eagle Oskar Viltry goes from flying a Marauder bomber to a Thunderbolt fighter. Hell, he even shot down a Chaos fighter with the main gun of a Leman Russ Exterminator.

Once they are vehicle crew, they stay as vehicle crew. They do change roles, but it's more like progressing in rank.
I think i read somewhere something about Land Raider crews being involved with the Adeptus Mechicus or something.

If the Land Raider crews are Tech Marines then yes they would be involved with the AdMech as that's where they get their tech training before returning to the chapter.
