If this is going to be an MMOFPS like planetside I could die happy.
If you could play as an IG commander, the last ability you get should be to hide a Baneblade behind a pebble.

be funny if they implemented IG as playing 5 characters at once that move in conjunction with one another much like that race from allods where you're still one character but have 3 guys.
I actually posted something way back in another thread, where I discussed how a Warhammer 40k MMOFPS could be successfully pulled off by allowing players to command squads of units. Hell, even use a points system just like tabletop, except with smaller squads. Something like a 4 man space marine team being equal to 12 guardsmen, etc... (just spouting out numbers, not my final suggestion).
However, I know better than to think that's ever going to happen. A damn shame, because I loved Planetside with a passion (at least before Core Combat came out) and would have loved a similar 40k version.
From what I caught of earlier discussions about this 40k MMO, it's going to be a straight MMORPG, and after the army of WoW clones and botched sandbox games, I don't have much hope for this. I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Tanith are comparatively more barbaric (in the technology sense) than regiments such as the Cadians or Krieg.

Well if your going to say that lets not count Necrons...I don't see a necron running around announcing plans or anything or show any signs of Independence

um, camo-cloaks are really advanced tech, they *had* the same level of tech as other regiments, just the tech was focused on other things (which got nuked)

THAT GUY IS EPIC!!!!! I love the fallen!!!!!!
If it's not an MMOFPS then it's worthless quite frankly. A point and click combat system like in most MMOs will just ruin it much like EVE.
I wonder if there will be a space environment, because boarding ships would be fun.
We will find out during E3 then.
It's odd really; from what I remember, Tau come in sales wise as about third most popular, yet they seem to get the short straw in publicity/actual usage more than would be expected. Then again dark eldar have been getting the short straw since second edition, so can't complain.
I wonder how the scale will work. According to codexes and whatnot, the space marines are huge, dwarfing an average guardsman. Yet every 40k game I've seen so far puts the two at about the same height.

If I remember right from the dozen novels I've got, the shortest Space Marine is 6 feet tall, and most Terminator's are atleast 8 feet tall in armour.
Interesting to see what bolters will be like, in Fire Warrior, they had 16 shot clips and very slow fire, but one hit kills to anything below Space Marine level. In Dawn of War 1 they were pretty much assault rifles. In DoW 2 they were slow-ish firing rifles that rarely made any sort of explosion like they should with small clips.
I would imagine in an TPS they would have maybe a 20-30 round clip, with explosive rounds but pretty bad recoil an automatic, with selectable fire modes, and long-ish reload times. Hopefully some sort of marksman mode or scopes as well, it will be cool blowing an ork's head clean off.
I hope this ends up good... Guess i'll set my hopes at really low so I'm not disappointed if it turns out shit.

According to the codex, most bolters only have 10 rounds and fire in 4 round bursts. Most Marines use single fire though.
They couldn't blow an Ork apart easy, but anything smaller like a Traitor Guardsman or a Gretchin would get annihilated.

While I don't doubt it, that does sound like pretty bad design. 4 round burst on something that can only hold 10 in the first place? No wonder they choose single shot.
I hope you can play as a Guardsman. Maybe like a Karskan or some thing..
They'd be pissing off too many people to only have a handful of playable races in the MMO, even at gate. But, whatever. Only practical way to put in some things would be to have the whole " 1 player controls X troops at once", 'specially IG.
Well, I could settle for a squad based MMORPG. It wouldn't be as cool as an MMOFPS, but I'd probably at least try it out.
More likely than not, we're getting a leveling system with a handful of classes, each one is super specialized, and there will be little variation between all characters. They're going to try to get a slice of the WoW pie, rather than get into the niche market that 40k applies to anyway.
I wanna be a techpriest enginseer or something else adeptus mechanicus.
and failing that Imperial guardsman (commissar priest, assasin, general whatever) and failing that space marine.
I can see a lost of balance issues occurring if players elect to be a single race. You would have things like a decision between a space marine or a guardsmen, which is kind of one sided, then say, choosing between an Eldar guardian or a dire avenger. If they go the same way all the other mmo's have gone, this could end up kind of weird.
Though I suppose at this point it's still too early to pass judgement.
The only way they could make this work was only allow one explorable system that a large number of factions are waring over, that way buddies could work as all factions would be forced-to-work-as-an-unlikely-team, and they wouldnt have to try to cram the massive bulk of 40ks backstory into a box to small for it. the imp guard problem could be fixed by only allowing players to control hero-type guys, like commisars, kaskins, ogrins, psykers,or tech preists leaving the grunts to be npcs.
im just praying the game wont suck, becuase then warhammer will get an undeserved bad reputation. also, heres hoping for a noise marine "class" for chaos.
[editline]05:00PM[/editline]
oh and by "all factions" i only mean those who actully would work together.
It wouldn't make much sense to make races playable when they only have simple/one goals or don't really communicate through the series.
I mean tyranid, Necrons...ect.
What did you expect? To walk in as a tyranid warrior, click on your quest and do it?
Hello there Tyranid Warrior, my family is poor fetch me 3 boar meats from the hunting grounds and I will repay you greatly.
Tau/Space Marines/Eldar/Chaos Space Marines/Ork Seem possible.
Any imperial guard or traitor imperial guard could possibley be as some kind of support role. Imperial sisters or anything else don't really seem that major.

All that really just made me cringe at the thought of No Tyranid players...I mean couldn't they do it like how LOTR online worked..you know the minigame where you can play as the bad guys and wreck havoc on level farmers
I don't know what to think of this, it just seems really difficult to make the game without having to sacrifice alot. New equipment, each races weaponry is rather limited, what are they gonna do? bolter mk1, bolter mk2 and so on?
What about armour? I'm not really well knowledged on 40k but surely this is limited too unless they sacrifice alot of fluff?
Classes? This seems the hardest to be honest. One can only wait to see how they're going to do this. Kinda excited but unsure what to think untill I see footage and further info. Have they even announced that it's going to be an RPG or whatever yet? I kinda think a TPS but similar to planetside would be fun to play..
this has the potential to be awesome...
but i wish i could play as nids, do quests for more biomass and evolve into bigger beasts, now that would be fun
but i bet on the servers when they start up everybody will be going SPASHE MARINESH

The game probably will be just space marines vs chaos
Because when all else fails for games workshop and everything related to what it makes they can always fall back on space marines.
well, there is the potential for multiple races but its a case of getting them all balanced out etc as i've said in an earlier post
[editline]06:30PM[/editline]
as awesome as this will be i doubt they will add in all the factions as the players would just become too diluted across all the races and there wouldn't be many groups around
much as i'd love to play nids i doubt they would add them as a playable race
I have this weird feeling that, assuming the game is succesful enough, there will be an expansion centering around a Tyrannid hive fleet attacking the/a sector. It just seems so... obvious.

Or why not have that..In the First game.
because...
Money
It'd be fun as an mmotps and if you did side missions like collect parts or upgrade something and then there was a main server with a constant large-scale battle going on, never ending. Never ending or there'd be objectives to achieve. It'd be complicated to do though.
I imagine it like borderlands, but a TPS, and a better skill system.
