Coincidence? I played HL2 about 5 mins ago :buddy:
I woke up at four in the morning before school started to play this game the day it came out.
I remember that I got up to the point where you have to blow the doors off of the cargo containers to take your airboat through. I think it was right before the boss fight with the chopper.
I didn't know it existed at that time. :(
Same day I got my driver's license, I was so pissed! haha.
I remember that. Everyone hated Steam and it was hard to get online to play an offline game. 5 years changes a lot.
Happy birthday HL2, you sure made me suffer and cry with your epic graphics and sweet everything.
Thanks for making a little 13 year old weep and bitch at his parents for a better computer :D
Love you HL2,
~z~
I got it the day it came out
what now bitch
OMG Time is going so fast, and we are wasting our shitty lives playing games.
We are gonna die, we are gonna die, we need to ask Valve and demand a refund.
I remember going to the nearest store and buying the game when it first came out. Happy B-Day!
I remember the first time i saw HL2 i was at my buddies house, I was in 5th grade and heard gun shots and was like wtf are you playing? And it was HL2 DM, with some map that had a flying pod in it and a bridge, it was capture the flag id still love to find that old map :D And he let me play it and i was like OMG i have to go buy this so made my mom drive me to walmart next day and bought the collectors edition that came with the shirt and stuff, and hl2 needs better shirts the logo wore off in the wash :(
PS: Any one remember that map im talking about if u do and know where to get it id love to get it again :D
HL2 is 5 years old and is still a really popular game.
I played Half-Life 2 about a year after release, maybe a bit more. That's only because no stores near me had the damn thing until then, and we didn't know until the end of '05. I saw the review for it in EGM and said, Hey dad, Half-Life 2 and then forgot about it. AND 5 MINUTES LATER I COULD HAVE OWNED THE FUCKER IF I JUST HAD KNOW THAT STEAM WAS RUN BY VALVE AND HAD HALF-LIFE 2 WAS ON IT. See, my first game on steam was darwinia. But yeah, I was a bit late to the whole thing.
Anyway, happy birthday HL2!
Didn't play it all in one day but I did pick it up, and wasn't able to play it until they fixed Steam...
Happy birthday half life 2
you influenced the gaming world and set a high standard!
Happy birthday, the best game ever released.
*sigh*
I still remember going to my local computer store, and they had a gaming PC with the leak playing on it... Good times. Good times.
5 Years... I reckon there's gotta be an announcement for Episode 3 today. Has to be... Maybe something in Left 4 Dead 2?
Happy birthday Half-Life 2, and happy first birthday Left 4 Dead :D
[QUOTE=Crazy_Farmer;18412175]I got it the day it came out

sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit
my problem was I got it, ya, was so pumped, but I just sat there watching my net_graph flicker between 4 and 5 fps. great way to spend christmas break :D
I remember the first time I started on the Half Life series.
It was in 2003, and back at those days my school had a "Book Fair" and this year EA was showing some of their games at the fair. My brother was looking for the new Warcraft III expansion. I looked to a lonely box on the shelfs with the lambda sign, and I asked one of the EA guys what was that game about. He said: "just a zombie game, you won't like it" but I bought it anyway. Then I started to play it but I really didnt knew what that game was all about.
Then there was the year of 2005, I think, my brother bought Counter Strike Source and discovered he had to install Steam. So I decided to play that other game again, but I still didn't understand what was that all about. We were so pissed at Steam because we lost the CD and the key and we couldn't re-install Counter Strike Source.
The year was 2006 and I wanted to play another game, so I downloaded the Half Life 2 demo. Still, didn't understood what that game was all about- I thought that the Ravenholm part was a secret part of City 17 back then.
We got to 2007 and I started to play Team Fortress 2. And I perfected my English. And I went to Disney World, and when I came back, I started to use Steam A LOT. I have over 20 games on my Steam account by now.
In 2008 I got some money from my dad, so I decided to buy some new games, especially Garry's Mod, and I discovered that I would need all the HL2 to get some content, also CSS, Portal and all that jazz. I bought CSS + GMod, HL2 Complete Pack and Portal (didnt knew about the Orange Box back tehre). When I finished playing all the Half Life 2 games, I said to myself: "DUDE, I gotta buy the first game!". Thats when I saw that old box with the lambda sign and discovered that the pack had HL1, Blue Shift and Opposing Force. Sooner than 3 months I was imersed in the Half Life 2 universe. I played EVERY SINGLE Valve game (except for Ricochet) and I still think that if it wasn't for Team Fortress 2, I wouldn't even know HL2.
Hey, guess what, when L4D1 was coming out, I didn't even KNOW what was that about. And now I am a loyal fan of the series.
Happy birthday Half-Life2! You changed the gaming industry forever :')
3.
:downs:
I remember getting it as a birthday present. I was like "What the fuck is this shit?", but after I completed it I wanted more.
Well, today HL1 has its 11th birthday! Happy Birthday HL!
First beaten YESTERDAY! so i beated it when it turned 5! awesome.
Also the ending is pretty crappy, i would have loooved a boss fight, but noooo a jumping puzzle, taking cover behind a wall and shooting glowy things at other glowy things.
I love Half-Life 2, I must have played it at least a dozen times. As a matter-of-fact just yesterday I started playing it again.
Happy Brithday HL2; you will always have a special place in my heart. :toot:
