You guys make me feel so stupid when I thought I found a nice new build for Spectre. Why don't you guys give it a try and see how it works, you all are probably on a much higher level than I am.
Because in higher level games MoM isn't a good idea. I'll occasionally get it on Void but I'd rather go Battlefury into Hyperstone. Yeah it's more money but it's more security and turns into better farm and better upgrades later.
If you want something to help you chase, Diffusal is also a recommended item on Spec and it's also really good because it propagates to your illusions and you'll get the Purge.
You can pretty much catch up to most people with spectral

True, but they don't seem to die without that extra boost. I guess it's because I haven't gotten Radiance yet :v:

Thanks! Usually when I ask people about DotA they're usually assholes about it. The community is pretty shit. But you've been really helpful.
Can someone repost/direct me to the autoconfig commands that let you right click to deny and the one to show the 1000 unit range indicator?
Laning with Spec is fucking annoying because all you can do is farm. Personally I would only get boots 1 and the rush a Radiance by 20 min. Get a Quelling Blade and a Stout Shield. Maybe upgrade the Stout to a PMS. The earlier you get the Rad the better because there is a certain point where it's not that useful as an item (30+ min) and getting it would be moot.
They all had more than 100+ wins and I was 0-5 until I got my MoM due to their massive harassment. They didn't have any real carries to speak of (Jugg was fed though), so me and my teams resident Riki just started doing mass ganks on any stragglers. I then got so fed that they couldn't kill me and I ended with 13-6.
I wouldn't say they were bad, but they certainly aren't what you call 'good'.
wins =/= skill
[editline]3rd September 2012[/editline]
also my key setup
qwer skills
1-6 items
z, x, c control groups
i would use legacy hotkeys but some of them are bugged.
Cause if they wanted to list all actually existing classificatiosn for heroes, they would have to update it constantly and some heroes would have too many of them.
Semi carries, light carries, hard carries, lane supports, direct supports, semi-supports, roamers, junglers, laners, lane dominators, roshers, area denial, clean up, counter push, push.
You can almost make up stuff like this by just picking particular area of the game, be it gold gain for example, and then making a list of heroes who excell at it (Prophet due to global TP, Doom, Alchemist, etc).
Don't forget Anti-Carries like Razor for his damage sapping

i remember i was up against a drow ranger+venge aura combo as spectre (and mid wouldn't gank) so as soon as i came close to the creepwave half my health would be gone
that was a bad game
so whats your key setup?
QWER+DF skills (T upgrade, G add stats)
ZXC, M4, M5, Space - Items
123456 - Groups
ASVB - Movement actions
Other keys I feel should be mentioned because nobody seems to use them
F1 Hero, F2 Courier, F3 Courier deliver, F4 all other units
I have a G110 so I also use the macro keys as F5-F12 for shop, sticky buy, scoreboard, glyph
Having sticky buy is fucking useful btw, just detour through sideshop when you're running and you dont even need to think about it, just press a key.
ESDF for camera control.
WRTG for abilities.
1-6 for items.
F1-4 for control groups.
A and Mouse 5 for Attack and Stop.
This is very interesting, I'll have to try it. Never seen someone use keys based around camera controls. You must be a very calm and collected player, I'd fuck that up ALL the time if I even got slightly panicky.
so whats your key setup?
skills - QWER + DF
Items - alt + QWEASD
Control groups 1-0

Just had a retarded game where I decided to rush soul ring as sniper (we already had weaver and morphling so it's not like we needed another carry) and spammed shrapnel against TA mid. Pretty much dominated the lane, bought arcane boots, dagon and blink dagger. Went 12/1, I love it when retarded shit works :v:
I just tried getting Radiance as Spectre last game. It's... Okay. I got Radiance at the 20 minute mark and it imediately sped-up my farm, but it didn't really become usefull when I tried to chase people down.
Then I Diffusal blade. Oh my god, there's no running from me ever again. Thanks for the tips guys!

I've always found that's the way it usually goes.
"Do retarded shit, fight retarded people."

Vanguard + radiance, people focus you and when you die everyone on the enemy team is at half hp.

I don't remember what pissed me off so much were I started hating using the mouse to move the camera but once I got my controls setup like that and used to them I've loved it. Having independent control of the mouse and camera is amazing.
Vanguard + radiance, people focus you and when you die everyone on the enemy team is at half hp.
I'm not a fan of Vanguard on Spec because it delays the Radiance and that Vit Booster could go towards a Heart later instead.
You could just buy a Vit Booster early and hang on to it I guess.
Vanguard + radiance, people focus you and when you die everyone on the enemy team is at half hp.
That's exactly what happened. I just rushed in front of my team following someone (being the greedy asshole I am) and ran into their entire team. When I died they all used their stuns on me and when my team rolled in they were all half health and killed them easy.

I got Vanguard after Radiance and it helped a lot.
something I always wanted to ask, does anybody have an less awkward key setup? I like to rest my fingers on the row where I assigned all my spells to, but also I want to reach the attack and stop button. At the same time I also want to be able to use inventory buttons.
QWER+DF is just super awkward when you want to reach A and S and the F1-6 buttons for the inventory slots.
so whats your key setup?
Default skills (QWERDF)
Stat upgrade - T
Items - 123/ZXC
Space - Center camera on hero
Control groups - F1-F4
Got my first rampage ever. Played Templar Assassin for the second time ever and just mashed my keyboard in a teamfight, had 50 hp for a while and they kept running towards me trying to kill me but I kept popping refraction and meld.
I could feel the frustration ooze from them because they all went quiet after that, and I sympathized.

that's actually a great tl;dr of TA
anyone can do well with her, regardless of skill, even by mashing the keyboard
People want kills and be the person who does the big play
Well...
I carried as Visage...
:v: yeah, they were THAT bad...
And Visage is a really nice hero. Complicated, but nice.
How exactly do I play him?
that's actually a great tl;dr of TA

I...can't...
Everyone goes straight for me, but other than that, a LOT of trouble with her range. I'll give her another go though.
The last 3 games I played had a Naga Siren on the enemy team. FFS people.
The only games I've seen Naga in are when I play her.
She is so easy to last hit with but man do I suck with her overall.
Just played with a shadow fiend who had nothing but a magic wand early game, then at 30 minutes, bam, he was rolling around with butterfly and hyperstone. I'm seeing the match stats on dotabuff, and god damn 233 last hits, 619 gold per minute, I was surprised when I saw he had around 100 games played
And of course, these players are always on the other team, meanwhile on my team, bloodseeker who gets his ass kicked because the other team is decent, and a naga siren who never ults
shadow demon? you mean shadow fiend right?
shadow demon? you mean shadow fiend right?
SD is pretty easy to lh with but shadow fiend sounds right.
shadow demon? you mean shadow fiend right?
I really hope he means Shadow Demon. That would make everything better.
shadow demon? you mean shadow fiend right?
Yeah, my bad, I don't know why, but everytime I type shadow, I type demon next.

I ended up with Razor because my friend randomed and complained about it, and I couldn't deny for shit with him :suicide:
SF with lots of last hits is about as surprising as NP with a lot

Get an early level of cloak, followed by grave chill and maxing soul assumption first for extreme early game power, make sure and get familiars at lvl 6 though. Always keep them ready to do something, out of the enemy's sight, like in the trees or something during laning phase. After mek, build shiva's guard. In teamfights, grave chill the carry, soul assumpt the squishies, and stone form in key spots as much as possible. Try not to get hammered too hard in the early game because of your low armor. For starting items, ring of regen, ring of protection, and tangoes work well. You could buy a clarity in the place of tangoes. Don't try to build agi items on Visage, his agi gain sucks. Attack speed however, is something of interest, like hyperstone. Usually I get hyperstone when building assault cuirass. Don't pick Visage against aoe heroes such as Kunkka or heroes with high DPS such as Huskarr. Your mana pool isn't so good early game, use caution when ganking, which is what Necro'lic is made for. Valve labeled him as support, not sure why. The great thing about Visage is not a lot of people play him, so when they see a skilled one, they have no clue how to deal with him.
Does anybody know if playing on a 16:10 monitor actually gives you the advantage of the wider screen in game or is this regulated somehow?
it will give you an advantage in you can see more yes, but in things like natures prophet ult it is just a radius around where the camera is that is considered being "seen"
