I think you need a timeout.
i wasn't aware this was the kindergarten thread
Holy tits, DOTA 2 finally appeared in my library. :D
You gotta unlearn all that bull they teach you in League of Legends and HoN. Cos dat shit gon' getcha killed out here man.
When I see 4 instalock melee carries, I don't go ahead and think "Christ, retards, do they even know this game ?!".
I know this game depends on players more so than on other aspects (picks, etc, they do matter, but personal skill, knowledge and teamwork beats the hell out of best compositions), so no match is lost until an ancient falls.
I just random hero, get maybe a 5th melee carry, and then I think about what are our advantages, what are disadvantages, what enemies might try, you know, I don't quit, even mentally.
This is a plague among Dota community, and it applies to pretty much all of problems we currently have social-wise (racism against russians/brasilians, hostile responses towards people coming from other games of this genre, unfriendliness, excessive shit-talk, "dota1" fandom, etc).
People decide to give least interest possible. If they jumped to conclusion after seeing something, it's very hard to change their mind.
A player fed first blood rather easily = he is idiot.
A teamfight lost with 5 vs 5 = game is lost.
Player picks up item that you know mechanics don't benefit him much (ex. butterfly on Mortred) = he is idiot.
Down to 1 outside tower at 20 minute mark = game is lost.
This list can go on and on, and in average game of dota, every single of these thoughts, if they get in, they are unlikely to get out of average player's head. A sudden turn of events, a lucky streak, they can change it of course, but a thought usually has done it's job at least partially by then.
Imagine if people didn't jump to conclusions in Dota.
A bad teamfight ? A reason to lure them into perfect trap, they think they have advantage 5vs5, let's abuse their feeling of assurance!
We lost a tower and 3 heroes mid ? Uneven trade, but our Riki just farmed that Diffusal, we can try and go for a quick counter-blow.
These picks don't make slightest sense and enemies got Prophet, Chen, Leshrac, Anti-Mage and Crystal Maiden ? Toss a coin and pick. Heads = you invent new meta with your team, Tails = you outplay them Dendi style.
It's difficult to do this without having such mindset beforehand, at least I think so, but believe me, because I am that naiive that I believe in this, I barely ever have games I regret playing.
What's possibly a secondary problem of this issue (I think this sentence doesn't make sense, correct me if I am wrong) is that people think they are unlike that, "I don't jump to conclusions easily"-kind, but there are still situations that break them. A particular event does make them hastily judge situation/person, and their belief that their thought is justified seals the deal. It might be hard to believe, but even the biggest asshole might be convined to change his ways, even in a match of online video game via text chat. If you try to do so and fail, it's only natural and you shouldn't be discouraged.
This. So much this.
This has happened so many times throughout the time I play Dota2
People seem to grab a gun and shoot themselves as soon as something bad happens.
Even worse when you somehow die and you are suddenly the bad rubbish on your team. People expect you to play as good as chinese pro players or something.
I've had people annoy me because I didn't pick MoM on Void and didn't have boots by the 15 min mark, when my lane was me and pudge vs a huskar that harassed like a motherfucker and a sand king.
So many games that people lose a few team fights and start cursing at each other saying its over and bla bla bla, 10 mins into the game.
I've had games with such a close call that would rival pro games in terms of "table turning plays". I've had people knocking door on our ancient, getting wiped out somehow, getting 70 secs of respawning time, and during that time, Pugna nether blast rush push mid and finishing 4 towers and their ancient in about 60 seconds. It doesn't quite feel nice to win a game like that because of how close of a call it was and how we lost many team fights, but its a win.
Just now, I had a game with Lanaya that seemed to be the start of the shittiest game ever.
Their team was made of the most annoying things ever. Pudge, Riki, Zeus, Tiny and Skeleton King.
While my team was made of a Nature's prophet who spent almost the whole time farming, Sand King who built a shitload of stuff BEFORE getting dagger so he had almost no way in other than his stun, Rubick, Lanaya and Gondar.
Game started out pretty badly, and if I recall, they got to almost 60 kills before us. We were failing ganks (I for example), getting ganked ourselves, getting buttraped by smoke+blindshot without warding with their own warding/dusting and Zeus was already raising some hell with those small cooldowns and fucking true sight ulti.
I even started to think we wouldn't be able to win at all and that I couldn't farm shit.
Until the time we started playing as a team, ganking them at Roshan.
Roughly, one team fight at a time, we all got fed enough to beat them and eventually, I was enough to kill them all in one go without losing any teammates.
Just goes to show how a little effort can turn the tides.
That, and as soon as Lanaya gets a desolator, Pudge's guts are made of butter...
And sorry for a late reply.
A few days ago when I randomed Lanaya, I used Meld and Refraction damage against a Phantom Lancer illusion as soon as the real thing came out of invisibility and he exploded instantly from 75% HP when the psi blade hit the illusion. This was around ten minutes into the match.
Is anybody with a cleave-like ability super effective against illusion characters?
Cleave and Psi-Blades have different mechanics
I'm pretty sure Cleave just does a percentages of your actual damage, while Psi-Blades spills over damage done (so obviously when you attack an illusion that amount is higher)

Some. Kunkka for sure because his Tidebringer is a flat damage bonus and the splash is Pure damage. Sven probably not as much because his cleave is based on a % of damage.

"whats the recall button?"
I'm 95% sure that Counter-Helix is stopped by it. I remember I had a solo-lane Doom vs Axe in one of my games, and I don't remember seeing axe spin when doomed, ever.

Yeah, just tested it, it stops it completely. Strange, I remember in DotA 1 it worked fine when under Doom.

That's for DotA 1, they've changed some of those for DotA 2. Such is the case with Heaven's Halberd.
i wasn't aware this was the kindergarten thread
Well, it's DotA. With the amount of whining people do in this game it might as well be.

If you find and inconsistency, report it on the dev forums. There were several threads last I checked arguing over random passives that were not behaving 'correctly'.
General consensus was that there were only three to four people that had any idea about what they were talking about.

Yeah. I've read some of those threads, and generally most people posting in them are full of shit. I've posted a few times but then I was flooded with massive inaccuracies all the damn time. I gave up on that stuff.
Is there gonna be a big update for new heroes cause its been forever sine they released any

Nope. It's only TA who is capable of dishing out thousands (6k and more?) of damage in a line if she gets lucky with illusion. Stand behind weaker one (like Level 1 Naga Siren illusion, 7x damage taken?) and it's death on impact.
I tried once discussing this fact, as I find it a bit too easy to abuse and too hard to counter, especially if playing an illusion-based hero like PL, but no go, people were stuck on blaming my lack of skill, which supposedly makes me perceive possibility to teamwipe with as little as blink-dagger and a tight area as not normal occurance.
I am beating a dead horse here, but for god's sake, Mortred with Battlefury needs items and tighter spot to teamwipe like that, Seer can Vaccum entire team on top of a cliff, which is dangerous, but not outright fatal unless combined with more spells/lack of counter measures on enemies, etc.
TA has the highest damage cap for a single hit possible of all heroes because of Psi-Blades/Illusion interaction.
And you were in general told to not pick illusion heroes against TA if memory servers.
And you were in general told to not pick illusion heroes against TA if memory servers.
I still remember that one video where the ta kills half the team with the illusion bonus damage.
It's extremely powerful. It also requires a combination of perfect positioning on your part, and very bad positioning on the other teams part.
Epicenter, echo slam, and black hole all operate on a very similar principle. TA on the enemy team? Consider something besides a manta.
And you were in general told to not pick illusion heroes against TA if memory servers.
Don't get me started, please. I repeteadly asked for a different advice, because theoretically, no hero should make other hero unplayable, and TA vs PL encounter is very close to that.
They can be annoying or hard to deal with, but not outright fatal to face.
I mean, Pudge can deal with Naix if played right, AM can beat OD, etc. How do you beat TA as PL if she can just blink to illusion you just spawn- fuck it, not going there. Don't respond, just consider that there is Dota matchup and even I consider god-awful, and I consider winning 5 pub random carries vs Na'Vi possible if lucky.
Remember everybody, in order to feel the least amount of disappointment on patch day, expect not only that there will be no heroes but also expect them to remove/redo your favorite hero.
That way, you'll be pleasantly surprised when Meepo still doesn't come out.
can you at least post this shit in the media thread instead of blatantly shitting up the thread.
it was relevant though
Phantom lancer versus earth shaker is also a death sentence if you just box and a move across the map. Hell earth shaker really screws with a lot of heroes, and murders people for lackluster positioning.

I agree that TA's interaction with illusions is extremely powerful, but I don't see why you make such a big deal out of it.
it was relevant though
no it isn't stop being a jerk no one wants to read this drama
i'm sorry but you intentionally bring this kind of stuff on yourself

I do think that TA should be nerfed, simply because it's way too hard to stop her, and she's way to damn powerful at all points in the game. The only way I've experience shutting a good one down was to have a direct counter or a very well fed carry. If both teams are equal and we don't have a direct counter to her, we lose. Every single time.
I don't think any real heroes in DotA2 at this time are that overpowered, but some are just blatantly better than others. Same thing with the underpowered ones (Alchemist).
All I did was post an image about nightstalker..?

Why do you think no-one likes you?
This thread is starting to have more drama then the SC2 Megathread, you could always all just add people to your ignore list if you dont like what they have to post.
Didn't TA's illusions damage thing get fixed?
I think there was an update released that fixed the damage amplification from bouncing blades from illusions.
On a somewhat different topic...
You guys mentioned that Lanaya was still "broken" due to how easy she is to play and how much of a threat she always is unless she's shut down completely or something.
Is it true? If yes, how would she be fixed?
She's really fun to play though. As soon as she gets a desolator and a crystalis, its basically gg.
Completely off-topic: Don't you guys punch || a bit too much? Seems like the shit he actually does is in retaliation to whenever someone fucks with him.
He just posted a goddamn picture that is even related to the gameplay, what's so bad about that? Geez...

I do believe the only thing they did was a change to Meld Strike, so that it doesn't spill. It just applies a hit to target unit separate from your normal hit (before it acted as bonus damage, i.e. combined with normal and spilling). It did reduce the issue by some margin.
