If you have a crystalis on Jug, every time you attack the game checks to see if your passive crit procs; if that chance fails, it then checks the crit on the crystalis. They can't both proc on the same hit, so you can't get some crazy % crit, and the chances aren't addative, so getting a crit item on a hero with a passive crit is a waste of money. Getting two crit items works the same way, meaning getting two daedaluses [i]will[/i] improve the chance for proccing a crit, but only to 43.75%, and again, you can't proc both on the same attack, so no crazy 500% damage crits.

Okay, guys, I had a radical idea while driving home today. I might have trouble articulating it so just bear with me. A lot of heroes in Dota 2 have one or two passives, but not all of them. I was thinking how much more interesting gameplay would be if there were more activated abilities rather than passives. It could, perhaps, get too complicated if activated abilities were just tacked on (every hero would have a minimum of five, if that were the case). To this, I thought: "What if passives were inherent traits to heroes?" Essentially, this means that Earthshaker's Aftershock would be part of Earthshaker himself, not something that you need to level up separately. Obviously, that'd get broken rather quickly (AM having 50% spell resistance to start, for example). From that, I thought of what would be the best answer to that dilemma: the attribute bonus. With my idea, attribute bonuses would now have two purposes. The passive would be removed from the hero's skill list, and replaced by another active ability. Leveling up your attribute bonus would not only add two to each of your stats, but would also give you the passive that is now gone from your skill list. The passive would have to be modified so that it levels up in tenths instead of quarters, but still ultimately ending on the equivalent of the current fourth-level stat once the hero hits tenth-level attribute bonus. Certain problems arise for heroes with two passives (AM and Faceless Void immediately come to mind, not sure if there's anyone else). Which one should be the attribute-bonus-driven passive? This is something that would have to be playtested in depth to figure out, quite clearly. The second problem I foresaw was heroes that have no passives. In this case, a passive could perhaps be added to these heroes as to balance them with the rest. [B]So, basically: Passives are removed, replaced with active abilities.
