regardless, yeah, you can't really bash half-life's story but you can shit on its gameplay because it's gameplay shits on you pretty well. for a cinematic game the gunfights and everything else don't play out very cinematically when they should have whereas call of duty keeps itself visually interesting because so much happens on screen + lots of audio going on
it's the little things that help out
i will give valve this, though: they know how to add subtle things to help point out where to go. call of duty sometimes leaves you in a maze (like in mw2 when you're hunting down that one guy in rio de jenerio) and following the hundreds of bad guy militants isn't a very good way to get players to progress

People recognize it as a good timekiller, but people also understand it's really given way too much positive attention. It's extremely low quality in comparison to other games, yet those get pushed aside. Ugh just reading that plot description gives me a headache. They're literally doing the same thing they always do where you travel to a new country to kill the bad guy, shoot a million people, then find out the bad guy escaped/never came. Then rinse and repeat till the final level where you actually do kill him.

Cod5 was much faster paced than 4.
If you go compare 4 to 5,6,7 you'll see much more similarities with 5 than with 4.

Exactly. I don't want to sound over-dramatic but it almost seems like people who love games like Call of Duty are holding the industry back. A game shouldn't just be fast paced, mindless gameplay that's rushed out every year. It should, just like good movies, satisfy all the elements involved.
A game like Call of Duty is just fairly low-caliber entertainment, that's why it's annoying to see so many people treat it otherwise. Look at L.A. Noire, which was recently called the "Citizen Kane of gaming". There's a game to be excited about.

Have you even played WaW, MW2, and BLOPs. They are all completely different. Sure the basic mechanics are there but they aren't all the same thing.

I honestly didn't hate Black Ops simply because they at least tried to add character back story and a different approach to developing the story and it's characters. The SP wasn't that bad honestly, even though the segments with controlling the helicopter was a joke.
