Edit: All i know is that it had an icepick in it :v:
The book Half life 2: Raising the Bar shows it pretty well. The original concept art showed City 17 being a really dark and scary place. An area of the game that was removed was the Air Exchange, which replaces the atmosphere with black poisonous gases and makes it painful for humans to breath. Also, some of the combine originally had black trench coats and looked more like Nazis. The combine used children as slave laborers. Originally the manhacks were controlled by people in an "arcade" who thought they were playing a video game instead of slicing rebels. Yes, there was an icepick as well as an AK-47 (the game called it the AR1), an MP5k (instead of the current MP7-like SMG), a flaregun, a sniper rifle, a heavy machine gun, and probably a few others I forgot. That's just a little I remember from the book. Basically, everything was a lot more dystopian and dark compared to the current Half-Life 2. If you like Half-Life 2 beta stuff, consider buying Half Life 2: Raising the Bar. It has a ton of very cool artwork.
Holy crap, i'm buying that book.
It's worth it :)
Viktor Antonov is the concept artist for Half-Life 2. The only person who does music for the Half-Life series is Kelly Bailey, so I find it hard to believe that Antonov did any type of music. You guys are so gullible.
Why would VALVe list him as the artist for the track then? Try running it in a Media Player and it will show him as the artist.
Holy crap, i'm buying that book.
Really nice book to read when you get bored, I can stare at it's pages for hours
Viktor Antonov should've composed music for the retail game, he's fucking awesome.
Yeah, but Kelly Bailey is still pretty good.
I'd like to see some kickass story in ep3. Kinda like MGS story, but less complex, but the same amount of epic
Anyone noticed the elevator radio music mixed with path of borealis?
Wasn't hl2.track13 used in EP 1? Isn't Path of Borealis the HEV Suit song, just the full version, and a little difference? (And what the fuck Valve, you have a long ass song yet you only gonna use 2 seconds of it, and then only leave in a minute and a half of it to dig up.) So anyway, a quarter of it sounds like 90s japanese RPG music, also, anyone find it odd how there was ALOT more piano? And what the fuck, i was listening to Path of Borealis, and i can't help to notice that the "Gman radio" song was played in the backround once, and then played out with it. Is that why they cut down on the song, so you wouldn't link it to the G-man?
So anyway, a quarter of it sounds like 90s japanese RPG music, also, anyone find it odd how there was ALOT more piano?
Exactly, it also has a few tracks that sound like they would fit better in an 8 bit game. Good music but most just don't fit into HL.
Good music but most just don't fit into HL.
That's because you have played the final version, the release. And you're basing your opinion out of what you've heard and experienced in THAT Hl2 game. Maybe if this music was in it would have had a different story line and a "feeling", and you've had a different opinion about it.
Song23 is actually a Doom remix titled 'Doomed' of E1M8. You can see it here: http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00231/ *EDIT* And Path of Borealis is another remix titled 'That Long Train Ride' Link here: http://www.vgmix.com/members/1412/audio.php (first song)
Holy crap, i'm buying that book.
Darn I don't see it in the Valve Store... Does that mean they are sold out for now?
I don't think it's actually published anymore, go find a torrent.
I don't think it's actually published anymore, go find a torrent.
Uhhh, is that legal...
Uhhh, is that legal...
Maybe, since it's out of print. I don't know, really.
Ad Block Plus makes it so hard to press the Play button :(
Downloading and going to put into half-life 2 now!

I'm going to replace some of the tracks in Half Life 2 with some of these to see how it changes the atmosphere.

Path of Borealis has that track used in it from the released version of HL2 called "radio1" that was the creepy music for one of the gman sightings.
Track 5, is called "Unknown Origin", and sounds creepy. (hell, It matches with the old, dark storyline) Umm, Track 10, is called "Kraken Base" Track 15 was used when you had to escape from the AirEx and Citadel Top sounds like StarGate.
Maybe because the guy that 'made' the remix got it from the old soundtrack?
There's the fact that there's at least 2 or 3 other songs in the list that are random game song remixes, so I would guess the same for this song.
Half Life 2 was based on a book? :uhoh:
No. It's an art book that shows the making of Half-Life 2.
not sure if anyone has seen this or put it on here yet, but track 5 and 7 are NOT half-life 2, there from Resident Evil 1, when ya go down into the sewers behind the waterfall, just thought i'd point that out edit: and track 10
