I just got back into this game, haven't played since beta. I'm going down the french spg line, and I'm not sure if I want to go down Russian heavy or medium, I remember the Russian mediums looking really fun in beta ( I had a tiger 2). ALSO, what's the best line to go down for tank destroyers?
In TDs, French or American are good to start with. Germans are a bit more specialized and Russians are lulsy alpha machines but the Americans are especially nice for newbies. French have the best high tier (7+) TDs atm.
I forget why I picked my first tank tree to be the German TD tree. They're certainly proving to be quite agonising, although something tells me that's just WoT in general.
I forget why I picked my first tank tree to be the German TD tree. German TDs require a bit more finesse from the player's part to truly shine, but the tanks ain't bad by any means.
German TDs require a bit more finesse from the player's part to truly shine
Ah, that explains why I'm doing so badly with them.
Wait, T25 is supposed to be played aggressively? That's something I've never heard of. Sure, it's kind of fast, but it's too fragile and doesn't stand a chance against tier 7+ heavies on close range. Or maybe my concept of aggressive play is wrong?
I know this be a late reply, but I define aggressive play based on the actual tank I'm using. I'll drop an example of tanks I do this with too, contrast to others of it's tier. Light Tanks: Running in, aggressive (front line) scouting, probing for gaps, taking pot shots at mediums/lights/weak TDs. It also mean exploiting breaks in the formation to go hunt artillery - or just picking on tanks I know I can out-strafe and do a lot of damage to. (T-50-2, ELC AMX) Medium Tanks: Being a front line spotter or following right along side the heavies. Aggressive sniping. Running after those who breach our lines (scouts/mediums/dumb-shit heavies.) If there's a massive gap in their line, I'll try to flank or fuck with artillery. Side-locking big, lonesome TDs is also another thing to do. (Type 59, Panther II, T20) [I play my VK4502A like this too.] Heavy Tanks: Being the front line. Breaking through, being the primary assault/gun. I'm a very high tier versus the group; I'll push even more aggressively and try to simply ignore little tanks so my team can take them on instead. (E-75, KV-5, ST-I) (Heavy) Tank Destroyers: Similar to heavy tanks, I act like a breakthrough tank. However, I try to make sure I have support so that I can't be flanked as easy. However, if my armor is great, I will sometimes push open fields or unusual paths just to light the enemy for my team. With the slower ones, the main goal is just to inch closer and closer to the cap. I have gotten multiple invader medals with my T95 due to this mentality. (T95) (Fast) Tank Destroyers: Similar to medium tanks, I more stealthy-push up or follow in with heavies. Unlike mediums, this is more sniper-y and less active flanking. That said, most fast TDs are amazing for sniping for a few shots, pulling out and relocating. The faster, the better. The T25 AT was simply amazing at this, with the Jagdpanther being a (fucking huge tank) close second. I enjoyed the T25 AT more, though, due to it's smaller shape, silly gun mantlet and magical bounces. (T25 AT, Jagdpanther) [ELC AMX can be done like this too, sans the armor part.] Hope that ramble helps answer what I mean. :v: As one might infer - most of my not-dead-due-to-artillery-fags loses come from me penetrating the tender bosom of the enemy base, only to find that my team has entirely crumbled and let in five tanks to ours.
I forget why I picked my first tank tree to be the German TD tree. They're certainly proving to be quite agonising, although something tells me that's just WoT in general.
The only terrible one for me in that line was the JagdPanzer IV. Mostly due to it's rinky-dink penetration. It made up for it with nice camo, decent speed and crazy as shit fire rate. Yeah, most of the German TDs are shit stock, but what line doesn't have that? After you get past ol' JgPzIV it gets amazing again. I'd just recommend running up the VK4502A (Maus) line so that you have all the proper engines for the Ferdinand; otherwise it's going to be a tugboat.
It feels just so right to be driving the KV-1S again, after probably a year of having past it. today is a good day, kliment voroshilov civil war weekend for best wot event 2012
Ok, I want a challenge.
Then don't play artillery, especially not french artillery.
and now i ragequit wot for 3 weeks until every other tank i fight doesn't do 400 damage to me before spotting even renders it visible
Then don't play artillery, especially not french artillery.
yea arty's pretty boring, fun to play if your team is shit though. using arty as a td to kill scouts trying to kill you is fun
Okay, thinking of ditching the idea to go through the US light-medium-TD path and just go straight for the KVs while I've got the chance. I damn well need them for a good money-maker, since as I mentioned, my only non-TD is the Panzer III as I've really not bothered going for any other trees.
Then don't play artillery, especially not french artillery.
French low tier arty is actually complete shit. It only gets "good" at tier 6+

Just started playing this, and it's so full of serbs, russians and polish people. Some crazy polish dude followed me everywhere because I somehow scratched his tank when HE drove into me. Calling me all sorts of things. Anyway, what do you think about these choices: Russian Heavy tanks Russian ATG's German Arty German light tanks/scout
Stop playing and uninstall while you still can.
I haven't got a german tank yet, and I am wondering what line I should go for. I am working on the IS line for USSR, and the medium line and TD with turrets line for the US. I am willing to sell the TD for the US though, since I am not really into it. (I only have the T40 so far though, so that could be why.)

German scouts are totally the best though Except the leopard fuck the leopard and the T-50-2 beats the 2801 in weird maneuverability, but that's it The chaffee gets an amazing gun... but it only shoots reasonable AP. Can't pen, can't do damage.
What about me? I want to start a german tech tree
http://www.thewarillustrated.info/142/i-was-there-we-knocked-out-37-axis-tanks-in-egypt.asp Here's an interesting read for anyone that likes WW2 tank/anti-tank warfare
What about me? I want to start a german tech tree
German TDs then? That's where I started.
Well basically, Chaffee is a brawler with the least speed of T5 lights but the best AP cannon and great maneuverability, able to circle everything it meets. Great view range and camo too. Role: battle scout, brawler, harasser VK2801 has the least maneuverability but is very fast, and has the least accurate but powerful howitzer as its main gun. Most armor too, but it doesnt help in the tiers it fights at. Role: bush scout, arty hunter, randomly pissing off high tier heavies with the howitzer, and "passive scouting" T50-2 has the weakest gun but is insanely fast and maneuverable, hardest to hit. Role: rush/suicide scout, "active scouting"
The 2801 can smack any tier for 100+ damage a hit though It's amazing at harassment
Russian heavies are great for newbs Russian TDs are meh German arty is good German scouts, don't even bother, you must be a veteran to play scouts well (maybe grind them in a few months or so)
Alright. I'll switch to French TD's then..
German TDs then? That's where I started.
Any other suggestions? I was thinking more along the lines of regular tanks, with turrets and such.
Hope that ramble helps answer what I mean. :v:
I believe so, maybe I should try out your T25 strategy. Who knows, maybe it will work for me.

For me it's too late, tomorrow I'll hit 1,500 battles mark.
