It's cool to see everyone digging the mod. I figured I'd register so I don't have to keep bugging bhb to post info about it, and also answer any questions you guys might have. I just finished a brand new build that fixes that wardrobe glitch bhb mentioned earlier: v1.8 Final Test Rev. c builds: Standard Version: http://finalack.com/Idol/Gentlemen_of_the_Row_Saints_Row_2_Super_Mod_v1.8_FINALTEST_Rev.c.rar 360 Onscreen Version: http://finalack.com/Idol/Gentlemen_of_the_Row_Saints_Row_2_Super_Mod_v1.8_FINALTEST_Rev.c_360_Onscreen.rar Standard OPEN version (everything $1 and unlocked from the start) http://finalack.com/Idol/Gentlemen_of_the_Row_Saints_Row_2_Super_Mod_v1.8_FINALTEST_Rev.c_OPEN.rar 360 Onscreen OPEN version (everything $1 and unlocked from the start) http://finalack.com/Idol/Gentlemen_of_the_Row_Saints_Row_2_Super_Mod_v1.8_FINALTEST_Rev.c_OPEN_360_Onscreen.rar Jeimizu: I have a full save archive up on my server that Brand Newb (another modder at the Row) put together. It's all clean non-modded saves for each part of the game so they can be used for either vanilla sr2 or modded: http://finalack.com/Idol/SR2_Saved_Missions_(Brand_Newb_Version).rar Also, pimp getting a face full of ass was a magic screenshot moment:
Does this also include that fix for the dresshirt collars when wearing a jacket over them that you came up with after that request I made on the SR2 forums?
something to do with not having shitty pcs I do believe
I have an ok, or I would even consider pretty good PC and this game is unplayable for me. The controls don't make it any better, either. The game is a lot of fun on the 360 though

Man, after seeing all the mods, I feel like getting SR2 on the PC now. I do not have the money though :(
Does this also include that fix for the dresshirt collars when wearing a jacket over them that you came up with after that request I made on the SR2 forums?
Oh heya simkas. That was a fun thread where just about every single modder pitched in to fix the issue. From the v1.8 readme: Invisible Overshirt Collar Fix by Everyone http://community.saintsrow.com/forums/topic/44676 Overshirt collars now show up correctly while wearing the men's 2-button business coat, men's double breasted suit coat, crazy salesman's jacket, and Aisha's jacket.

The game is a lot of fun on the 360 though
There's actually a few performance tweaks you can do to get it running well. The biggest issue the game has is streaming chunks of the city from the hard drive into memory. As soon as the game hit the hdd for anything, performance goes right in the toilet. Your goal is to try and get the game to use as much memory as possible so that it minimizes its hard drive usage. Strangely enough, sr2 is not aggressive enough in asking for Windows to give up prefetched memory, and also generally will not create a .pf file unless you force it. NOTE: Windows Vista/Win 7 Only: So, the first thing to try is delete the entire contents of c:\windows\prefetch\ and reboot the pc. After reboot, run sr2 and confirm that it creates a .pf file for the sr2 exe in that folder. Yes, I know it's weird and shouldn't work like that. Sr2 is the only game/app I've ever seen that will not get memory from Windows itself giving up other prefetched app's mem, but every single member of our Penny Arcade SR2 group had major performance improvements by doing it. The other tweaks you can try are: * Disable Motion Blur * Disable Ambient Occlusion * Disable Windows page file To run smoothly, SR2 needs ~2.5Gb free memory (not being prefetched by other apps) so you really need a system with at least 4Gb of RAM total and running a 64bit OS. Or, you could get a solid state drive which has amazing performance and seek times which should improve performance for any system. An alternative would be to get a couple of fast 7200rpm drives with <4ms seek and set them up RAID 0 (striping for performance.) Here's the original post on Penny Arcade where I discovered the issue. Later posts in that thread have additional testing info: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?p=13098841#post13098841
Do you mind me adding this to the OP?
Feel free to use any info/pics in the OP. Can't stop the signal. The boxed key just installs on Steam anyway: http://www.amazon.com/Saints-Row-2-Pc/dp/B0016Q4UJE It's been $4 forever, and will likely stay that price.
Eh, I'll think about it. Would prefer buying over steam though so I do not have to wait for shipping. Also, added your info to the OP.
Is it safe to delete the prefetch files?
Is it safe to delete the prefetch files?
Yes it is. Prefetching is simply Windows loading apps into memory that it thinks you may use soon based on your working habits. Windows is constantly moving data in and out of RAM from your hard drive doing this all the time. It doesn't contain any real data or anything, other than instructions about when and what it should preload. So, if you delete the contents of prefetch, Windows will just recreate them fresh when you reboot. Your first couple of boots into Windows may be slightly slower until it starts prefetching that, but you probably won't notice any kind of difference at all.

Gonna try that maybe I'll be able to run sr2 at 1080p as good as I do at 720p [editline]12:37PM[/editline] [img_thumb]http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3365/sr2pc2010071214350130.png[/img_thumb] Well, its playable, but no fps worth bragging about
I should probably also mention that the performance improvement by clearing prefetch is usually proportional to just how much ram you have. If you have 6Gb, then it probably won't do as much (since you don't have as many apps filling up your free mem.) 4Gb and less though should definitely see some marked improvement.
Yeah I have 6gb ram, didn't notice MUCH of an improvement but there is some.
Was playing around with an alpha build of the new SR2 texture repacker earlier today:
I really love the cutscenes in Saints Row, they are badass.

I still have both lying around somewhere, fun games.

I've been wanting to replace the god-awful SR2 clothing textures with better ones ever since I first played the game.
The FPS and the driving control makes me want to throw the game off a cliff. Beside that it's good.
I really love the cutscenes in Saints Row, they are badass.
To be honest I really love the story in Saints Row 2. It doesn't take itself seriously but at the same time they keep you interested enough to continue.
Holy fuck, does that work with clothes? I've been wanting to replace the god-awful SR2 clothing textures with better ones ever since I first played the game.
Yep. Clothing textures, logos, billboards, you name it. There are still some bugs though that need ironing out with the compression routines (some of the DXT1 textures compress weird on repack and position themselves incorrectly.) But once that gets fixed we can start releasing these mods to the community. You can grab the latest tools here: http://community.saintsrow.com/forums/topic/44899 We also have a steam group if you want to stop by chat if you have any questions about the tools or sr2 modding in general: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/moddersoftherow
Does this include better handling for the vehicles?
Does this include better handling for the vehicles?
That really depends on what you mean. If you're inferring that you dislike the handling in general because you feel that it is too sensitive on a keyboard, then no. You may want to consider picking up a 360 controller. On the other hand, if you're talking about Tidosho's power train mod that fixes and tunes many of the larger vehicles making them RWD and improves torque and performance, then yes: http://community.saintsrow.com/forums/topic/44658
SR2 is on sale for $5 buying directly from THQ as a digital download. The key also installs on steam: http://store.thq.com/store/thq/en_US/pd/Saints-Row-2/productID.107069900 News post: http://community.saintsrow.com/forums/topic/44905
Looking at this thread makes me want to play Saints row 2 again. Me and my friend beat the game not to long ago with Gentlemen of the Row. We did Naked fight club. I haven't laughed to hard in a long time.
To be honest I really love the story in Saints Row 2. It doesn't take itself seriously but at the same time they keep you interested enough to continue.
This. I love how it's completely unserious at times, and yet gets very serious at times.
To be honest I really love the story in Saints Row 2. I love the story/voice acting in SR2, even if it does look... terrible on the PC.
