it takes me like 10 minutes to download a 2gb demo when i get rates like 3.5/4 mb/s on steam
it doesn't take "hours"
WaW has a PC demo? link
It was a public beta.
I thought that Just Cause 2 was another GTA clone, but when I played the demo, it was awesome. Yes, PC needs demos.
Just finished the Magicka demo and it was the best demo I've played all year.

Not everyone pays $100 a month for internet, lives in a dorm or a developed country thanks
the games not released yet thats why dummy
Goddammit KCUF quit following me and responding to my posts
Because when companies like Crytek say they support and prefer the PC over other consoles and we decide to be total dickwads and leak their game over a month before release, of course less and less companies support or even like the PC genre.

Anything below 1mb per second is pretty slow thesedays.
I think PC needs more demos, since I don't normally have a huge amount of money I don't like to chance buying a game that might not be very good (or to buy ones I feel I won't get my moneys worth). Sometimes pirating the game to test it isn't worth the waste of bandwidth and so I tend to miss out on a lot of PC releases.
And besides, it really can't be that hard for a game dev to whip up a demo, they never seemed to have this problem back in the days of demo discs.
Except more people will be inclined to buy it.
Like I was, I wasn't even anticipating the game in any way or even playing it for that matter.
But from what I heard it's good things.
Just finished the Magicka demo and it was the best demo I've played all year.
I agree, but then again this year has only lasted about a month.
Anything below 1mb per second is pretty slow thesedays.
And yet i have only 300 per second.
Except more people will be inclined to buy it.
That is true, I saw a screenshot from the Crysis 2 leak, so I'm going to buy it.

UK 700 kb/s represent!
What, they still have console game demos? For new games and not just already released games? Wow, where have I been?
Yes? They're downloadable or they come with magazines on discs. I did buy a PC Gamer magazine not too long ago though and it had an "eco"-disc with demos, very thin and pliable.

You misread me. I was talking about console games and demos. Most console game demos don't come on a disk and usually only appear in downloadable form.
In ye olden days, demos came on discs, and most were for games not even released at the time.

I like how that works since it's only February.

No it isn't, to you it is because you most likely live in America, the homeland to Fibre Optic Broadband, not everyone in the world has it so it isn't slow at all.
Sometimes I feel like pirating a game just to try it out before I buy it. How hard is it to make a demo, anyway?
CryTek promised they would have PC demo out before release.
Then their whole game gets leaked. :frown:

It does require a few weeks, maybe months, work to get a demo out. That may be one of the reasons why there are more console exclusive demos than PC. Console devs usually get paid by Microsoft, plus they don't have to worry about adding in extra content that PC users can take advantage of. For example, the Just Cause 2 and Mafia 2 demos both had their timers disabled and trainers out for the demo. I've played both of the demos with the trainers and the full games, and there's not a whole lot of reason to get the full game if you have the demo with unlimited access.
I could be wrong. My theory.
man don't place our demo's in the concentration camps man you'll kill out the race!
ARREST PEOPLE WHO DELETE DEMOS!
OP deserved his when I saw the title, then I read the thread and wanted to give him a again.
Good thread OP.
Demos often convince me to buy a game.
consoles are retarded no one should be allowed to play them
Just Cause 2 would never have sold so many copies if it wasn't for the demo :colbert:
Mafia 2 for that matter
As soon as Mafia 2 was available all that wanted to buy it, bought it as soon as they could. Nobody wants to fuck around nothing to do beyond the bounds of the demo.
They increase sales or else they wouldn't do them at all. I don't know why they don't do PC demos as much anymore though.
Wait, the PC demo is a dying race? I remember buying magazines that came with a CD with 30+ demos, some trailers and one or two complete games..
I have one of those right next to me.
Also PC demos allow you to see whether or not you can actually play the game. Although my computer has the right specs for mafia II, the demo failed to run properly so I avoided it. Considering the criticisms of the game, I'm kind of glad I did now.

I wouldn't have bought it otherwise

mafia 2 demo was totally different than the game though
Why doesn't New Vegas have a demo
:saddowns:
Remember what the internet did to the JC2 Demo?
Yea...
One of hotshots, Microsoft are paying companies to make demos for the consoles instead of the PC because they want to make you interested into buying the game on a console (preferably Xbox 360 ofc) rather than on PC since Microsoft makes more money on the console market. and Sony don't give a flying fuck since they make little to no money on PC gaming.
