I miss when every game got a demo on the PC. :smith:
Not everyone pays $100 a month for internet, lives in a dorm or a developed country thanks
I beg to concur. I live in a ~200k inhabitant city in Brazil and I get 10mb/s internet, with plans to have higher speeds available in the next few months. [editline]12th February 2011[/editline]
Remember what the internet did to the JC2 Demo? Yea...
People modified it so they could have even more fun with is while the game wasn't released?
Why doesn't New Vegas have a demo :saddowns:
because gamebryo is a pile of shit. and it's open world
I'm going to buy Crysis 2 for the sake of PC gaming.
Well atleast they aren't making you pay for demos.
Remember what the internet did to the JC2 Demo? Yea...
Removed the boundaries. Pretty much no missions, missing lots of vehicles, ect. Its like people who complain about the Mafia 2 demo.
Threads with content, a dying race.
Well atleast they aren't making you pay for demos.
There was actually a thread in the News Node about some company debating on charging $5 for a demo/rent/trial whatever.
It's just idiotic if they're giving up on the PC gamers, we all know it's the superior race.
It's just idiotic if they're giving up on the PC gamers, we all know it's the superior race.
Doesn't matter if it is. I'm vaguely guessing that the consoles gets more sales than the PC when it comes to games, thus earning more attention.
What baffles me is why the l4d and l4d2 demos were for a limited time for PC, but forever on xbox (and possbily ps3)?
I have this big series of problems with Crysis 2. First off, I really don't want to pirate it. I'd like to support the developer, because I'm having a lot of fun with the demo on Xbox 360. Anyways, my university internet blocks P2P. However, there is no PC demo. Okay, fine. Then this rumor comes along: EA management is considering the idea of paid demos as "premium early content," and Cevat Yerli, if I'm not mistaken, referred to the free demo as a thing of the past. If all this bullshit weren't surrounding Crysis 2, I might consider getting it, but as of right now it's off my list for this year. Too much controversy and terrible decision-making over a goddamn video game.
Should be PC gaming, a dying race. Or RTS, a dying genre. 100% agree.
Demos can give false impressions too. The Just Cause (1) demo was much better than the full game. Also demos aren't dying, they are just called now betas, and they serve in both ways (attracting customers and bug-tracking)
Wait, the PC demo is a dying race? I remember buying magazines that came with a CD with 30+ demos, some trailers and one or two complete games..
When PC mags started packing DVDs instead of CDs, it was the best thing ever. So many demos, I remember PC gamer had this thing called big game hunt and it was just demos of the best games in each of the main genres.
I bought the whole 3 seasons of Sam & Max because of the free episode they had on Steam (Which is kind of like a demo). I think developers need to release more demos because it really does benefit them the most.
Yea, that's the problem with piracy. People want to know what they're going into, and since the game doesn't have a demo they have to pirate.
That's a stupid excuse. There' things like reviews, previews, and costumer feed back. Don't justify some petty asshole's motives.
That's a stupid excuse. There' things like reviews, previews, and costumer feed back. Don't justify some petty asshole's motives.
Someone can easily fudge the facts in a preview. Customer feedback is often biased and skewed. Reviews are even more biased and skewed. The best way to learn about something and formulate an opinion about it is by demonstration, you know.
That's a stupid excuse. There' things like reviews, previews, and costumer feed back. Don't justify some petty asshole's motives.
Nope, that's the main reason I pirate games, I'm not going to just throw £40 at a company to find out their game doesn't run on my PC.
You misread me. I was talking about console games and demos. Most console game demos don't come on a disk and usually only appear in downloadable form. In ye olden days, demos came on discs, and most were for games not even released at the time.
I was talking about console games in the first sentence. Not sure about the unreleased bit though but I know I've played demos for unreleased titles recently.

The best way to learn about something and formulate an opinion about it is by demonstration, you know.
Faulty logic, seeing how there are hundreds of games journalists very much like you and me who have some sense integrity in them that will share their professional and personal opinion on the games that you want. There really is no excuse, when someone has poured all their energy into one thing just so some pasty waste of flesh can take it without so much as even a thankyou, because they don't want to be caught for being a parasite.
Nope, that's the main reason I pirate games, I'm not going to just throw £40 at a company to find out their game doesn't run on my PC.
This exactly.
Nope, that's the main reason I pirate games, I'm not going to just throw £40 at a company to find out their game doesn't run on my PC.
Developers release recommended specs, you can google for people who have the same or a close comparison to a rig like your own, fucking hell mate, you're on a PC gaming forum right now all you gotta do is ask someone if it can run whatever game you want.

That's still leaves you with thousands of PC gamers who tried the game on their PC. So if you are still unsure you can ask around, I've done it hundreds of times, and with a little help been able to make games run 2x to 3x better on my PC.
Easier and quicker to just test myself, to be honest.
So what do you do if the game does or doesn't run?
So what do you do if the game does or doesn't run?
If it runs and I like it I buy it, if it runs and it's not worth the price or doesn't run well I don't.
