What do you get when you level up in this? New characters and skins?

Basically. I actually don't know how to get some of the skins. You get Golden Lancer and Golden Hammerburst from either having them in Gears 2 or by playing during the first week, and then you get the Onyx skins by getting the Onyx medals with the individual weapons, but besides that I don't know how to unlock them.

If you look in the Stats and Awards area there's a page for weapon skins, that lists all of them.
I'm halfway to Onyx hammerburst already. God, that is such a good weapon. Great for stealing kills, too. :v
Broke my Xbox controller playing super meat boy, gunna be a few days without gears :(
Finding a Boomshot shelf and trading it to each of your AI squad mates is goddamn hilarious. Also, apparently it's coded into the game so that the AI gets resupplied at each checkpoint, so there's going to be a whole lot of explosions. I wish you could give them a weapon, because I accidentally took their second weapon for ammo and now they only have a Boomshot with six rounds and a crappy pistol.
This quote perfectly embodies the Sawn-Off Shotgun Discussion
good players are often cruel and uncaring bastards toward the bad players, but what do you expect? It’s infuriating to hear whiners complain about some game aspect when you know it’s fine because you kill opponents like crazy with it. And it’s never a small annoyance, because the dummies who don’t know that they suck always complain the loudest and most frequently. They just can’t figure out why the developers won’t listen to their huge list of nerfs, so dammit, they’ll repost until the beaten-horses come home.
Am I the only one who thinks the Gunkers are stupidly overpowered? I'm playing on Hardcore, and it seems that they are the sole reason the ability to be downed and revived is in the game - because otherwise you'd be in for hours of loading-screen fun. Am I going about the battles with them wrong?
I mean, I can beat them, I'm just downed/killed by them at least three times more than by any other enemy. (Except the Armoured Kantus...they can just bugger off too.)

Shoot from a distance, roll a lot. That's about it. For Armored Kantus', though, they're super weak to fire. Grab a flamethrower and go to town. (Works especially well on the second to last level when like eight show up at once).

Yeah, they are pretty tough on normal, I can't imagine the amount of frustration it would lead to on Insane. Despite that though, I think they are a fun enemy. They're like a Gears version of the Hunter from Halo.

They're certainly fun, but they seem bizarrely proficient at downing you. I can't imagine the frustration that would result had Epic decided not to implement downing and reviving into single-player.
Do a lot of people really use the retro lancer in multi-player? I want to get the game ASAP, but because I'm so used to the playing style of Gears of War 2 of playing with the shotgun (I forget the name of the shotgun). Once I get the game and start playing online, do I have to completely forget the tactics and strategies of GOW2 and adopt new ones for GOW3?

Whatever you do, don't complain about the DBS[sawed off shotgun]. Instead of complaining, you should adapt like you said. Don't go up close, or take different routes, ect.

if you see someone running towards you with an SOS, just roll past them. They'll most likely miss and give you a free kill because I can shower in the time it takes to reload that thing.
Finished the Campaign today, I thought it was really great loved it! But...[sp]some moments, Dom and even in the end when Adam dies its really really sad it got into me. Also Carmine on Myrrah haha that was awesome and HES ALIVE, YEAAAHH![/sp]
Anyone else was like me wondering...[sp]WHERE THE HELL WAS CARMINE IN LIKE 90% OF THE GAME he showed up in Act I then a little in Act II and baaaaam back late Act V! Come on >:([/sp]
Huh. That was weird. I'm no longer eligible for Casual versus, apparently.
I went in and bought the game on release day from Jb Hi-Fi and got the codes for Commando Dom and Mechanic Baird. I didn't even pre order or anything.
And then my friend who works at EB games stole a bunch of DLC codes for the Savage Grenadier Elite and gave me one, i feel really lucky

[sp]Well, since they had that big vote on whether or not to kill Carmine, they couldn't exactly have a lot revolve around him. It's definitely disappointing, I'd have much rather had Carmine take Jace's place, he was freaking useless.[/sp]

[sp]Even though they had the giant vote for Carmines life they still could've made him a useful character. They most likely planned to kill him at the end of act 2 or around there which would explain his disapearance act.[/sp]
Man I wish I could find a Savage Kantus skin somewhere. :( Oh well, guess I'll have to unlock the regular Kantus skin.

The ONLY reason Jace is in the campaign at all is because he was in the books and they just wanted to throw him in to appease some fans or something. Which is fucking dumb.
They probably didn't know whether or not they'd kill off Carmine, so threw him in just in case. (Which was also totally unnecessary, considering they added Sam, Anya, and Dizzy anyway.)

I think if they were going to throw in a character strictly for fan service, they should have given him a bit part, not make him a squad member that no one gives two fucks about.
Especially when Carmine, who looked like he would have been a fan favorite given the past carmines, could have just as easily taken his spot.
Carmine is still my favorite character. God damn them. I hope in Gears of War:Exile, they make D. Carmine, and have him have a VERY large part, because all the other carmines either died or weren't important to the story.
...Gears of War: Exile? What is that?
Also, this gets a whole lot more difficult when you're not playing Casual versus. I was doing really well, and then I started playing regular TDM and I'm getting stomped repeatedly. :(

Another Gears of War coming out November 2k12, I believe. Or it's like 2k14. Not sure.
I just realized Superstar Cole is a skin. Is that new? I don't recall seeing it earlier.
It will be mine.
I don't like the civilian/armorless characters. Makes me feel.. weird. I'll always be Carmine though. I was A carmine in Gears 1, B carmine in Gears 2, and C. Carmine in Gears 3. Fuck the rest[except baird, marcus, dom, and cole. maybe even griffin..], Carmine represent!
Hell yeah bro. My plan is to play C Carmine until I get B Carmine, then play him until I get A Carmine. Then Superstar Cole, because he's awesome.
Superstar Cole was unlocked during the beta.

why are people so dumb
Superstar Cole was unlocked during the beta.
That was Cole Train. You get Superstar Cole by getting like a thousand MVP medals or something ridiculous.

You're thinking of Thrashball Cole
