i would never properly level on one but i think that they are fun to play if you get bored and/or it's maintenance.
If you get bored, you should play something else, if it's maintenance, you should play something else or take a break for once.
They can be fun and cool to play, to see how powerful you can get with a certain gear and how classes you never played high levels are. But to play it's so glitchy and get boring so quickly...

You mean how "powerful" you can get with buggy formulas and how a class plays with buggy mechanics/abilities, right?
I've had a lot of fun on them because I was playing with real life friends. However I must admit that playing on official Blizzard servers is much better gameplay-wise.
However I still miss those good days with my friends.
Private servers compared to Retail servers are like Gimp compared to Photoshop.
i used a private server to see what class i wanted to roll as an alt in normal WoW
it was a paladin
also i have a server running on my netbook to play if i get bored while out and have no internet
Private Server showed me that WoW is worth the money.
I started out on Spermik (Epic Name FTW)
And I'm going retail next week or so.
Because idiots play private servers, (such as 2 of my friends)
then when I talk them into playing real wow they cry over how a mob doesnt drop 10000 gold and how they dont crit 1807392187391827391827 and how they dont ding to 80 by killing ONE mob. Etc..
Private servers are shit, unless they are used for stuff like exploring new tiers, places or machinimas.
Buy wow you poor losers! It's like 12€ a month, its nothing

Yea, because everyone has a credit card, and every private server has goretusks outside of goldshire that drop epics, and every private server has an instant lvl 80 configuration. Or maybe, you're just a fuckwit!
You don't need a credit card you dumbass, and retail is just more fun, more people, more stuff on the AH and all.

What I meant was, a lot of people don't have the payment options WoW gives them available. And yes, I agree with you on the more people part. I love populous servers :3
I used to play on Eternion WoW Private Server. It's not really private, becuase anyone can join. It's free unless you want to gain access to some special items and VIP abilities!
It was something just to screw around with...nothing serious like the actual WoW servers.
I used to play on this alteric valley server and it was really fun with alot of people online. But retail is much better so i switched.

So you pay a shitload of money for something marginally better?
Private servers were fun back in the days of ChaosCrusade.
After that server went down, it seems like they all just went to shit.
I don't mind them, yet I don't want to play them. After switching to retail, private servers just aren't fun anymore.
I was on scapegaming for awhile, It was disappointing that they took it down

You realize they didn't take it down, right?
I remember playing on one back in 2005, LOTS of people on a server, normal xp rates, was fun as hell, no alot different from retail back then. But now it's just shittey, go for retail if you wanna have fun.
I love private servers
(Watch me get yelled at by every person in this thread.)
i played at private servers while i did not have any playtime but sometimes i play on some private server for som shitz n giggles nothing more then that.
It is possible to make a very good and entertaining private server. But nobody does it. Because it requires talent and good scripting.
And if you got one of those, you'd be better off just making a completely new game.
Nice to try out classes that you don't want to level and then find you don't like it, but other than that they pretty much take the fun out of the game.
I'm pretty much forced to play on a private server because Blizzard isn't accepting my dad's credit cards for some reason and I'm not finding pre-paid cards anymore :saddowns:

Bullshit, they're sold everywhere... EVERYWHERE.

I used to find them a few months ago, then I took a break and now I just can't.

Though I heard about an actual gaming store opening up soon so they might have it when they open up.
