It's not wiggling in flight, it's an effect caused when a camera is unsteady, making the tracer appear to wobble.
It also adds a little visual noise which makes the tracer look more appealing in flight. It looks a lot better when moving, trust me.
Of course, if you want I could always just make a boring old straight one.
