I've been testing things out and it just doesn't look quite as visually exciting. In my opinion, games these days have been making explosions with too much smoke and not enough fire.

Considering that the fluidexplosion texture is not vanilla (for HL2/SourceMods) and not used other than one cinematic part in L4D2, I think it's okay to use it.
Call of Duty explosions are nice. I like how the have actual animated explosions as well as the usual particles.

Especially the ones in Blops (except for the whole pixel thing) That's one of the reasons I wish sprite sheets worked, because then I could make stuff more like that. Just curious, but will there be any airlock breakable windows within the station that can/are shuttered automatically? It would be kind of humorous to be wandering around and then for laughs shoot one out only to have a space cop go: "Desist right away Villainous Curr! You've broken intergalactic space treaty B7-CEX2885A! Either pay a fine or be thrown into Scotland Yard!" :v: ^ not a suggestion... merely a hypothesis.

I could do it if I knew how to make a particle that acted like the flash from the default hl2 explosion. Where it would appear to be an overlay in front of the screen unless the very center was covered up by an object. Right now you're confined to making a looping texture that animates constantly. Sprite sheet animations will only start animating when they are spawned, and can repeat the animation when they are spawned again.
