That's a bit harsh, but at least no more community raging about it.
I sure hope so, they get all the morons panicking like "OMG WERE MY PORTL 2 I BOT IT!"
That was part of the reason they've given
Oh shit, I'm fucked. Source?
I havent been disabled yet but a few of my friends have. It doesnt appear to be permanent, more so to tell you not to fake running a game and causing issues in the community.

What else are they gonna do to warn you not to do something?

As long as it's not a permaban they deserve it. (IMO)

Well technically all accounts that are disabled are permanently disabled. The only way to get an account reactivated is to contact steam support and even then they have every right to tell you to piss off. I dont see how a harmless joke in changing a number in a text file is worth losing all your games.

Like I said, as long as Valve makes sure to give them their accounts back it'll teach them not to piss off the community for some laughs. Anything above just disabling their accounts for a day or two is complete and total bullshit.
What text file did you changed to fake Portal 2?
Like I said, as long as Valve makes sure to give them their accounts back it'll teach them not to piss off the community.
The community shouldnt be stupid and take shit seriously.
What text file did you changed to fake Portal 2?
Steam.ini in one of the game directories, just change the AppID to 659 really then launch the exe directly.

Well then im saved, i just played with the GameInfo.txt but it didnt work.

It's not their fault if they're complete morons, and Valve's moronic fans are still fans who pay them money. Valve has to make them happy.
Steam.ini in one of the game directories, just change the AppID to 659 really then launch the exe directly.
For the last goddamn time, there is no steam.ini file.
You opened a steam_appid.txt, and replaced any number inside with 659, saved, and ran the game directly from the EXE - tada, Portal 2. Only works if you've preordered the game beforehand.

Yeah I know it was a typo its an .inf in L4D/L4D2 as those are what I used.
Rate agree for pre-order on steam so I get the discount and portal 1
Box for Amazon so I can get the neat skin
Rainbow for Gamestop so I can get the scuba stuff
I really cannot make up my mind
Facepunch has spoken, I will pre-order from steam even though I want that sexy amazon skin.
Gonna get it for PS3 so I get the PC version anyways.
Wait, does that work in reverse also? Can I get it for PC and get the PS3 version?
steam://install/659
Finishes but installs nothing.
I'm confused as to what this does. It just gives you the Desktop Icon for Portal 2, but not with the correct Game ID? So the actual Portal 2 will still take the same amount of time to install?

Yeah bullshit. Nice try at attempting to scare people.
Yeah bullshit. Nice try at attempting to scare people.
So, if I try, I wont get banned?
So, if I try, I wont get banned?
I highly doubt they would ban someone for fake launching it. What would be the purpose in that? You aren't scamming anyone out of something and you're not actually playing the game.
Valve seems to be disabling peoples accounts, those who faked launching Portal 2.
Although it's not necessary at all, guess it'll make people think twice before trying to trick people. I'm almost certain that if its your first time getting disabled, Steam support will give you a verbal warning and re-enable it.
Good thing I didn't pre-order Portal 2 or fake playing it.
Yeah bullshit. Nice try at attempting to scare people.
Not bullshit.
Valve seems to be disabling peoples accounts, those who faked launching Portal 2.
I only tried it to test it out and see how Steam functioned with logging gameplay time on its records. I'd really hate to have my account disabled over something as harmless like that.
Got it
The most unfair part is that, there are price differences between europeans. There are the so called "tiers" Tier 2 pays less than Tier 1. Hold on let me get the link it's in SteamUnPowered.com. (Also I'm Tier 2 by the way, but I still think it's unfair.)

Why is Norway on tier 2?
I haven't been disabled. Valve isn't going to disable accounts and risk losing tons of customers over a harmless prank. This type of thing has been being done since the Steam Community launched and people renamed their shortcuts.
Yeah nobody has been disabled, superdino is full of shit.
Well they just disabled mine, just sent a ticket to steam support, i hope i can get it back soon...
and yes i mad
A little question to you guys, if I have a bank account tied to Paypal and I don't have enough funds on the Paypal account, will it draw the money from both Paypal and bank accounts?

Yes, I think so.
