It's because they're dicks.
Luckily I can usually manage to talk to the NPC just by going into first person and spam-clicking.

logged in, went to vashj'ir, got my sea legs, hearthed to SW and logged out.
realms came up, walked into uldum, killed 2 rares (got a mace), found a camel figurine, got the rare camel boss and my grey camel for One Hump Or Two.
