You should try Routes in combination with GatherMate2 and GatherMate_Data for your mining. Works great for me.

Does it stack with kings/motw? If it doesn't I guess it wouldn't be as good. Just get a bunch of pets to cover all the buffs and use whichever buff you need to replace I guess.

i was told (way back in vanilla mind) that they grow about 1% a level.

Are you under level 10 on a Hunter? If so, then yes, you get the ability to command your pets at level 10
