You don't need to be an alchemist to use it anymore, but I don't know about required skill level.

i started today with around 300 in mining and 3k gold, i am now at 525 mining and 5.1k gold and i have another 1.5k coming in from the AH

i can't believe how much money i'm already making, i put 3 hardened elementium bars on the AH for 330g each, i walk out to the mailbox to get all the money from my obsidium and bam all 3 sell

Tailoring and enchanting?

tailoring is the most boring thing to level, and unless you have a lot of gold it will be difficult and time consuming

you need a crap load of frostweave to get to 425 and on my server stacks of it are around 100g, netherweave and runecloth were also pretty expensive so i ended up farming everything.

everything up to frostweave was super easy, but frostweave just takes forever to farm, and it's up in northrend so it's out of the way

I always take a combination of Herbing, Skinning and Mining while levelling a new toon. It's especially useful now you get exp from mine/herb nodes and provides a nice bit of gold while you level too.

On a completely seperate note-- doing comparisons. Single-minded fury is simply not viable.

Given an ilevel 333 mainhand and ilevel 318 offhand, blues-- all with STR, not AGI, all DPS weapons. the 1H set does consistently around 1k DPS less than the 2H weapons, and has amazingly poor rage generation per hit. I constantly found myself rage starved, which was not a problem with the TG (2H) set. Kinda wish blizz would fix that, but at the same time I'm starting to enjoy using two 2H swords again.
