They added the 'area of effect' option when phase 3 began.
So it's just an option for those who prefer the old fighting gameplay style?
I messed around with the closed-beta (I'm a tester) and the maps are pretty big. While this helps give the world scope, unless there is a way to travel much faster then the fatigue thing is going to be a huge nuisance.
How is traveling faster going to affect the fatigue system?

I think hes saying that if theres not a way to travel faster, fatigue will be an annoyance for those traveling over a long distance.

There will be. Airships and chocobos are in the game but just not active yet.

I'd love to be the guys that wear the motion tracking suits. :v:
Another grievance:
A lot of little quests require you to synthesise a certain number of items using a limited number of prerequisite materials that they give you. As far as I can tell (though it may be because I'm a bit of a wally) these syntheses are based on luck. Now if you fail a quest then you must wait 2 days (real earth time) until you can retake it.
Can you see where I'm going here?

Why do they always move so unrealistically in Japanese games? They always move like they're Power Rangers or something.
Even in Dead Rising the weird movement style was incredibly distracting.

Open Beta starts September 1st. You can transfer your beta character's name into the full release.

I hope this game goes f2p after a few years...
$12.95 is not very much money
It would be nice to be able to have a free-to-play area. Like, letting the players roam around whatever their starting city is.
I wish all MMOs had this.
That'd be dumb. I'd rather just play a 10 day trial version.

Final Fantasy XI is still paid after 8 years. Good luck with that.
Does instancing take place in this game? The sort of instancing that means I can stand in the same place as a friend and not be able to see him?
If so that will put me off this game.
To the people who are DLing the client, I've been in many closed betas that require that you DL the new one for the open beta. It is pretty common so I wouldn't recommend wasting the bandwidth on it.

Most of the game is open world.

I think the new client version is going to be too large for this to be just an update. They're opening up all the other zones and adding all the content. We'll be able to use airships and boats they said. I'm assuming the streets will be filled with npcs now and a bunch of other stuff too, they were quite empty before.
Is there a download for the open beta client? I know it starts on the first, but it'd be nice to download it and get everything up to speed so I can start playing it before it's released.
There's usually no news over the weekends on the beta test website. I'm assuming a bunch of stuff will get released tomorrow, including a client download in prep for the test on Tuesday.
Anyone that has played the beta give your specs and how well you were running it along with resolution etc? Just curious to be honest. Personally I need to upgrade and just want to get ideas.

~40 FPS
Should be able to set the settings higher when the new client gets released and we start playing open beta Tuesday night.

Client update is available to download now too.

can you link it? I'm having trouble finding it.
How does one enter the open beta though? Through Closed beta account or a key?
