How does one enter the open beta though? Through Closed beta account or a key?
Not much clear details yet..
I wonder if there will be a patch tomorrow. The boot version update updated the launcher to 2.0.1 or something. Big update complete with a news page upon boot. Can't wait to see it in action tomorrow when the servers go live and see what it looks like.
Open beta client available on the site, only requirements are that you have a SE account and is willing to play.

My download stopped at 40.6% :(
My download won't even start. I'm just going to leave it overnight and hope I wake up with it all downloaded.

Nevermind, got it working.
Open beta has been postponed guys.
FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test Postponed
FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which is scheduled to begin at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010, will be postponed due to a confirmation of critical bugs. New schedule will be released at a later date.
Along with the postponement of FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, the issuing of registration code for FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will be postponed as well. With the download of client software's installer, it will be suspended at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
:C
That really sucks. When they say "it will be suspended at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010", they're not saying it's suspended until then, right?
Didn't receive my Open Beta key. So the OB activation will be delayed, sorry Benji.
I think I can make my own account for OB now. Once the registration is available anyway. I wonder if the issues they're having are with the actual game or with their account management stuff.
Oh, okay then.
looks like we'll be requesting keys from http://entry.ffxiv.com/ and then using that on the SE account site.
Open beta client available on the site, only requirements are that you have a SE account and is willing to play.
Well this sucks. I have to make a new one because I forgot the password to my old account.
The beta client won't download. It just says, "Downloading Version Update Files. Please Wait." forever, and it just never starts.
[editline]12:36PM[/editline]
Oh wait nevermind. It's working now.
So you need to make a new account? You can't use your old?
no idea, so soon and virtually zero information is kinda annoying to be honest.
I don't think the open beta client differs from the closed beta... I can still log in, but I need a registration key to play the open beta... which I have yet to obtain.
This downloader is ridiculously stupid. It's been on for 10 hours and it's only at 22% and I still haven't managed to get any "Remote connections". Also takes up a lot of CPU.
What i do is go to My documents/My games/Final Fantasy XIV/downloads/ffXIVbeta/<number folder>/<patch>.torrent
If I have a very long download going on, I find the version number of the Patch, then I close the patch, and torrent the same patch file that i was trying to download. I download it and wait for it be complete, then I move my completed patch to the patch folder and overwrite it. Then It get pass the download and install automatically. I did this and got up to date in minutes instead of 5 hours of that shitty download system.
[editline]11:56PM[/editline]
Damnit, i want my registration key now! WTF taking them so long!
How do you sign up for that key? Are they sending it to everyone who was in the beta or do you have to ask for it yourself?
Upload 200kb/s, Download 1.4 kb/s
Oh how I love torrents.
How do you sign up for that key? Are they sending it to everyone who was in the beta or do you have to ask for it yourself?
just have to camp http://entry.ffxiv.com/ when it's close to the time
19:00 PDT, what time will that be in Eastern Pacific Time?
10 pm
Why did they take down the client on http://entry.ffxiv.com/na/index.html? I hope this doesn't mean they're delaying it longer than just a few days.
They delayed Phase 3 if I remember correctly and then announced the following morning that it would start that same night. They've been pretty quick on their dates really. The fact that it was supposed to start tonight (before September) was actually a surprise to me. I was expecting around the 5-7th, considering they said early September, which would give 2 weeks before the collector's edition launches.

thanks, that's like midnight from here...

Since the reason why they postponed the open beta was because of a bug in the client, they're probably putting together a new one so that you don't have to download several patches.
