I don't think it means a trial, just that you're not paying subscription for a while. Also it means it's getting re-developed by better people so updates should be spectacular from this point on.
I kinda want to try this game out but eh I hate paying for a game and then having to constantly pay a subscription fee, especially that much.
It's great that its free and I was a huge fan of 11 but I just don't know whether this will be good enough to start shelling out that kind of money again.
Ask a few of your friends who bought the game and walked away early on for their account and don't mention the free subscription time.
Btw Tanaka wasn't fired, he was just moved to a position where he has a lot less of a say with what goes on with the development. Besides, you can't just fire the second most important person in th company.
I actually did want to try this out, but I don't want to pay for the game if I can't try it first. I also want to try Mortal Online again since I purchased the game a while back, but my computer at the time couldn't handle it. Waste of $50.

You can find Final Fantasy XIV at an increasingly lower price, but if you live in the US it'll be hard to find in stores. Can't speak for all areas, but I know that Gamestop (for the most part), Target, and WalMart have removed the item from store shelves and only sell it online now. The only place that sells it in my area is Best Buy, and I live in a relatively packed area of stores.
Also, the subscription was suspended indefinitely. There's no date on when it will come back, but it's believed to be around March.
My friend is buying the game. The game is going to get way more fun over the next few months. Another big patch (plus holiday content) hits today. There's enough being added today to keep me busy for a while, at least till the next big patch. Hunting NMs was a lot of fun if you did it correctly in XI. Hopefully they improved spawns etc and it'll be way better in 14.
I've been looking for a new MMO to play for awhile. This caught my eye and I could buy it from a site for 20 euros.
How different is this from, say WoW for example?
Update looks pretty good today. ~250mb patch. Lots of much needed changes.
Going to buy this for my new rig along with Crysis.
Can't wait to try it out.
I can't register, wat do?
What do? Throw the game in the trash, lol.

~So funny!! ! :xd:
I'm not sure if I want to buy FFXIV or install FFXI and play that.
I already own FFXI and I could use the extra cash to pay for a couple extra months, or I could buy FFXIV. FFXIV's monthly payment is currently free isn't it? I may be able to play that longer than FFXIV if it's free.
Also, can I use paypal to pay monthly for FFXI or FFXIV?
Edit: I could have sworn FFXIV was on the Steam store...
Do I have to buy it in stores? I would like to purchase it online if I can.

1. FFXIV is not currently charging monthly.
2. Not directly. You can buy Crysta with Paypal, which you can use to pay for a subscription, but to pay for it directly you'll need to use ClickandBuy.
3. Nope. FFXIV is not sold in any digital distribution stores, to my knowledge. You're going to have to buy it off of Amazon/Best Buy/etc online, or find a store that is holding it. I'd check a few stores, but they've been pulling the game from shelves. Target and WalMart in the US only sell the game online now, and I know Game has been removing the game from its shelves.
4. You can purchase it from Amazon, for a pretty hefty discount:
$29.99 for the standard: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Pc/dp/B002I0JJ2U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293625983&sr=8-1
$68.26 for the collector's: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Collectors-Pc/dp/B003O6EFKI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1293625983&sr=8-2
I'm almost rank 26. More main scenario quests unlock for me. Been looking forward to it for 6 levels, can't wait.
Do you guys play on Cornelia?
I'm thinking of buying a key today and I already have all the data files downloaded, so I need to know which server to pick.
Wait what this game is free?
Wait what this game is free?
The monthly fee is currently free, but you still have to pay for the actual game itself.

YES! So how much is the game? I saw it at Best Buy last night for $75 :raise:.
[editline]29th December 2010[/editline]
Wait why does it still say there is a monthly fee on the official website?
$75 might have been the collector's edition.
I know I saw it at wal-mart for $50.

I guess that explained the big box it was in. So is there really no subscription fee? And will it stay that way?

Yeah, Cornelia. I'm currently r26.

There is no subscription fee until they add enough content to keep players satisfied. (aka we're looking at a few more patches/months of free play)
My cousin is going to stop buy the store and pick this game up for me.
I have a credit/debit card, as well as paypal. What's the best way to pay?

Aaw. Thing is I don't plan on picking up any new games after the ones I got from the Steam Sale for a couple months.

Credit/debit. Doesn't matter too much anyway, you're not paying anything right now.
Going to take about an hour to update.
If everyone else is playing on Cornelia, then so will I.
yay I'm in!
Miqo'te, named Ichigo Chidori. I'm in the forest place.
Ok I'm a little confused here...
How exactly do I get new weapons and armor? I just finished my first quest, "Souls gone wild" and I'm currently Conjurer Rank 6 and Physical Level 4. I feel like I should reward myself with some nice new armor or something.
Gridania is the place I'm in.
Anyone playing on Lindblum? Crafting or buying a new marauder axe is a bitch, since no one either sells the materials or the axe itself... I'm r15 and still stuck with the starter axe. :(
