So what is the point of these test schedules? Every beta I've been in has had open servers for the duration... just weird.
I don't know the FFXIV schedules, but most (read: ALL) betas are not the final release and thus they'll do beta for a few days, then iron out the kinks that the players have found during the downtime. Every beta I've been in has done that.

Every beta I have been in has done Schedule, last one was APB if I remember correctly.
You must be thinking of OPEN Beta.

I hope they omptimise this game well..
Id like to play it on final release :/ And I hope its after I get my new PC
There's optimization issues. Some people with incredible PC builds have been getting bad scores.
I hope that's true, I got a 1588 on the highest resolution (I'm fairly far below it (the resolution)).

Nope. I've been in 6 different closed betas. I guess some companies just do things differently.
Can this game be enjoyed if you've never really touched a Final Fantasy game?

The MMO's are nothing like the consoles games. At all.
Pretty sure the whole point of the test schedules is to gradually increase player count with each one and get the servers running to the point where they get them up 24/7. In between each test period they have the opportunity to do large amounts of bug fixes and add stuff to the test + get a patch out to all the testers for the next test. I'd imagine closer to release we'll be able to play daily rather than only during test periods.
Beta test starts tomorrow night again
Is there anyone that will not be using their beta account tonight at 10 pm EST that would be willing to share with me? I have a friend that would like to play.
Awful congestion on the beta servers. Finally able to create a character, just unable to login to the game fully.
What did you think Benji? wondering if im the only one severly let down :p
I really want to play this. Hell I would be fine just touching the character creator.
Also yeah, for anyone who has played the beta quite a bit, what can you tell us of it? I know it's beta and it won't be like the final product, but what are your thoughts so far?
I thought the game itself was amazing. I was playing on the lowest possible settings with lag and I was considerably happy with the gameplay. I love the teleport feature. Having the option to jump back to town instantly, or really anywhere across the game world is fucking awesome. I like the feature with quests that allow you to warp back to turn the quest in.
If I wasn't already fucking pumped for this game, I really am now.

"It has a community that calls your character a character and not a fucking toon"
Ahaha
Where did that term even come from?
Wherever it came from, it's incredibly lame. I never refer to my character as a toon.
Does anyone know if you get to keep the character you create in the Beta for the full version?
No, like most Betas you wont be able to keep your shit in the final release.
No, like most Betas you wont be able to keep your shit in the final release.
Square Enix let FFXI beta testers transfer their characters to the real game. Maybe they'll let FXIV beta testers do the same.
Nope. They said beta characters will not transfer. I'm glad too. I want to experience what I played yesterday on my new PC I'll be playing on in September. Lowest possible settings to max settings is gonna be great.
Well that's good. Now I just have to order the game and register a name before someone else takes it :v:

You are going to have to be getting a very very good rig if you want to play this on high. My new rig which got very good scores on the benchmark is getting close to 10 fps on max. Very disappointing.

Nope. There a surnames in this game. You can have the first name you want no matter what (actually pretty glad they decided to do this. I really like being able to play as Benji).

What's the specs on your new rig? Lots of hardware issues right now, remember that the beta version will iron out all this before release (hopefully). My piece of shit system running a Pentium D processor was able to play this game on low settings. And it really didn't look too bad, even on low!
So from what iv'e heard, I won't be dissapointed in terms of character customization come release time. Hopefully anyways. :P
Character customization is A++. Especially when you compare it to FFXI. I love that you can adjust the skin color and stuff like that. Going to have some different looking characters running around for a change!
You can find some detailed Character Customization videos on Youtube.
Just found out I'm in the beta. Loved FFXI, and hopefully this painful first download is the only one.
Trying hard as hell to get in now but no luck.

Oh looks like I'm in queue now.

How do you know if you're in the queue or not? Is there a site you go to or do you get an email?
